Meta sets end of new Quest 2 and Quest Pro features for 2027

Meta will stop adding new platform features to Quest 2 and Quest Pro after Horizon OS 2.13, scheduled to reach all devices by March 2027. Games, purchases and multiplayer support will remain available, while security updates are planned through December 2027.

Meta will end new feature development for Quest 2 and Quest Pro in 2027, marking a transition for owners of the older virtual reality headsets. The company’s published guidance says Horizon OS 2.13 will be the final feature release for both devices, with the update scheduled to reach all units by March 2027.

The change will not disable either headset. Meta says players will still be able to find, purchase, download and play apps through the Quest store after the final feature release. Existing purchases will remain accessible, and multiplayer functionality will continue at the platform level. However, individual developers will decide whether their games continue to support the two older devices and whether cross-play remains available in their own titles.

What continues after the final feature update

Security and critical fixesQuarterly updates through the end of 2027
Final security patchDecember 2027
New app submissionsDevelopers can submit Quest 2 and Quest Pro apps through December 2027

Meta’s timetable gives existing owners continued access to the current Quest software library rather than imposing an immediate cutoff. The company also says applications will not be removed from the store solely because the transition is taking place. Cross-play between Quest 2 or Quest Pro and Quest 3 or Quest 3S will remain supported by the platform, although that compatibility still depends on developers maintaining their game builds.

Developers face a separate compatibility deadline

Developers will be able to continue releasing updates for existing Quest 2 and Quest Pro apps. New applications supporting either headset can be submitted until December 2027. After that point, newly submitted titles can target Quest 3, Quest 3S and later hardware, but will not be offered for Quest 2 or Quest Pro.

Meta also identifies version 213 as the final supported Meta VR OS software development kit for the two headsets. Future operating-system and SDK capabilities introduced after that version will be limited to newer Quest hardware, and Meta will stop testing later OS and SDK releases against Quest 2 and Quest Pro.

What this means for Quest owners in the Philippines

For players in the Philippines and Southeast Asia who already use either headset, the immediate effect is a limit on future platform features rather than the removal of purchased games or a shutdown of the devices. Existing apps can continue to receive updates, and platform-level multiplayer support is set to remain available during the transition. The longer-term question for each game will be whether its developer keeps supporting the older hardware as new APIs and features become exclusive to Quest 3, Quest 3S and newer models.

Meta’s published timetable places the end of quarterly security and critical bug-fix support in December 2027. The company’s guidance concerns the Quest 2 and Quest Pro platform lifecycle; it does not announce a Philippines-specific change to headset availability or local pricing.
