CapCut will add a ChatGPT plugin to auto‑assemble and refine videos in chat

CapCut announced a ChatGPT plugin at CapCut World on 24 October that can generate an initial edit from uploaded clips and accept conversational refinements. The plugin is not yet available and will arrive in the coming months.

ByteDance’s CapCut announced a ChatGPT plugin at its CapCut World event in Los Angeles on 24 October that aims to let creators start and refine video edits entirely through chat. The company said the plugin will arrive in the coming months, but did not publish an exact regional rollout schedule or launch date.

What CapCut says the plugin will do

CapCut demonstrated the plugin in a short demo posted to X, showing a user uploading several clips and instructing ChatGPT, “@capcut turn these clips into a 12‑second highlight reel.” The plugin produced a rough cut and allowed the user to refine the edit by chatting — for example, requesting longer shots, clearer captions, or quieter music under a voiceover.

“Creators across the Americas are showing us that a great idea can begin anywhere,” Xiaoqi Fu, CapCut’s global head, said in a statement.

CapCut said the plugin will let creators make hands‑on edits that ChatGPT will take into account in the ongoing conversation. The company also announced several other AI features for its web and mobile apps and an AI agent for CapCut that will be tested in the coming months.

Disclosure, content provenance and detection

CapCut said it will label AI‑generated content and use visible watermarks and C2PA Content Credentials to track how media was created. It is also testing a tool that lets users upload a file to check whether it was produced by CapCut or related ByteDance apps Dreamina, Pippit, and Hypi.

  • Plugin status: announced on 24 October, not yet available; arriving in the coming months.
  • Core function: generate a rough edit from uploaded clips and refine that edit via chat.
  • Provenance steps: AI labels, watermarks, and C2PA Content Credentials; testing a detection upload tool.

What this means for creators in the Philippines and Southeast Asia

The announcement signals another step toward conversational editing workflows that reduce the friction of turning raw footage into shareable clips. CapCut is already widely used across Southeast Asia as a mobile editor for short form video; a ChatGPT plugin could speed idea‑to‑publish cycles for small creators and brands. CapCut’s statement specifically referenced creators “across the Americas,” and the company has not published a regional availability timeline, so Filipino creators should not assume immediate access until CapCut or OpenAI confirm rollout details for the Philippines or Southeast Asia.

CapCut’s use of C2PA and visible watermarks addresses growing concerns over undisclosed AI generation, but it will be important to watch how reliably those measures work in practice and whether they are applied consistently across web and mobile builds.

CapCut’s demo shows how conversational AI could be integrated into common creator tasks, but the company has yet to publish technical or privacy details for the plugin. Creators who rely on CapCut should watch for specific launch dates and platform support notes from CapCut and OpenAI, including any regional restrictions or account requirements.
