Story Kitchen is adapting the 2022 psychological horror game Madison into a feature film, Variety reported on 27 October 2026. The original game was released in 2022 by Bloodious Games; the studio and publisher have not disclosed casting, crew or a release date for the movie.
What the game is and how the film aims to translate it
Madison is a first-person horror title that follows protagonist Luca Maxwell, who receives a cursed camera for his sixteenth birthday. The device compels him to continue a murderous ritual started by the game’s titular serial killer; players use the camera to solve puzzles and attempt to break the cycle. Story Kitchen said it intends to carry the game’s “physical experience” into a theatrical setting without losing the elements that define Bloodious’s world.
“'Madison' earned its reputation one heartbeat at a time. Players don't just remember the story; they remember what it did to them,” said Story Kitchen's Dmitri Johnson and Mike Goldberg.
Madison’s creator, Alexis Di Stefano, also commented on the collaboration, describing the game’s camera, house and Maxwell family as central to the franchise and stating Story Kitchen understood that these elements are more than “set dressing.” The studio is positioning the project as a theatrical release.
Ongoing Madison content and studio track record
Bloodious Games has continued expanding the Madison universe: a free Halloween update recently added an expanded normal mode and a new Possession mode, and the developer announced a story expansion titled “The Maxwells' Curse” is scheduled to arrive sometime next year. The film announcement follows these ongoing content updates rather than preceding them.
Story Kitchen is developing several other screen projects based on video games, including adaptations of Life Is Strange, Streets of Rage, and a Tomb Raider series for Netflix. The company framed Madison as part of a broader slate of game-based adaptations it is producing.
