Phantom Blade Zero exceeded 700,000 concurrent players on Steam within 24 hours of its initial release, according to Kotaku. The result places S-Game’s action RPG among the 15 largest launches in the history of Valve’s PC storefront.
The launch gives the Chinese studio a significant early result for a game that Kotaku describes as its first major release after previously focusing on mobile titles. Phantom Blade Zero is presented as a wuxia action RPG with a roughly 30-hour story campaign. Its early momentum arrived after critic reviews appeared earlier in the week and received a generally favorable response.
A major Steam debut for a Chinese studio
Kotaku’s report places Phantom Blade Zero close to the launch figures achieved by several major single-player games, including Baldur’s Gate 3 and Elden Ring. The comparison is based on concurrent-player records on Steam rather than total sales, and does not represent the game’s complete audience across other platforms.
The game’s early reception has also been connected to the broader rise of Chinese-developed premium action titles. Kotaku cites Black Myth: Wukong as an earlier example of a Chinese game that drew a much larger Steam audience. That title reached a peak of 2,415,714 concurrent players at launch, while PUBG recorded a higher figure at the start of its battle royale boom.
“Another Chinese studio came out of nowhere and made a banger game. Just beat the first ‘boss.’ So far so good,” an early Steam user review said.
That comparison also highlights the difference between a strong enthusiast launch and a broader mainstream phenomenon. Shenzhen-based consultant Daniel Camilo, cited by Kotaku, said Phantom Blade Zero is highly anticipated among core gamers in China and internationally, but argued that it has not reached the same level of public recognition that accompanied Black Myth: Wukong.
Performance patch released at launch
S-Game has already released Phantom Blade Zero’s first major patch. Kotaku reports that the update includes changes intended to improve performance on weaker hardware, an important consideration for PC players in the Philippines and Southeast Asia using a wide range of system configurations.
- Game: Phantom Blade Zero
- Developer: S-Game
- Platform covered by the chart: Steam
- Reported peak: More than 700,000 concurrent players
- Launch window: Within 24 hours of the initial Steam release
Kotaku’s report does not provide a Philippine price or confirm regional availability beyond the Steam launch. It also does not give an official sales total from S-Game. The reported player count therefore measures simultaneous activity on Steam, rather than the number of copies sold or the full number of people playing across every platform.
