10 Exciting Farming Games You Won’t Want To Miss In 2024

We’re heading into the last week of the year and most gamers will be prepping their wishlist for 2024. For us farming and life sim junkies there’s nothing quite as exciting as a new take on this beloved genre. Inspired by the likes of Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing this year has gifted us with Fae Farm, Palia, Coral Island, My Time at Sandrock and so much more! The backlog of games is long but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get excited for all the new games coming out in 2024!

Is this the year we get Witchbrook? A Harry Potter-esque life sim where you attend a magical college. Or Tales of Seikyu a gorgeous fantasy farming sim where you live with legendary creatures? There’s everything to get excited about, from the traditional sim with A New Leaf: Memories to something a bit more magical with Fields of Mistria. Here’s a list of upcoming farming games that you’re not going to want to miss in 2024!

Fields of Mistria

NPC Studio

Fields of Mistria is a stylised nostalgic farming sim that looks like it’s come out straight from the ’90s. Some gaming reports have dubbed it as a Sailor Moon-esque farming sim because of its look as well as the addition of magic in the game. Expect all your favourite farming mechanics such as farming, fishing, crafting etc. With a heavy dose of retro graphics.

Mistria, an idyllic village tucked between forest and sea, has offered you an overgrown but full-of-potential homestead in exchange for your assistance. Restore the town to its former glory after an earthquake wreaks havoc and strange magic begins to flow through the land.

Critter Crops

SkyReach Studio

There have been a lot of hybrid magic and farming games but I think there’s always room for more! In Critter Crops you’ll enter the world of Mutter Island as Sylvie, a newfound witch with the ability to grow magical Critters. It’s that particular ability that has her chased out of her hometown. When she arrives on Mutter Island she discovers growing magical Critter Crops will aid her in restoring the island.

Grow magical critters in this isometric role-playing/management game and uncover the secrets of Mutter Island. Gather resources to help restore Mur Mur Town and use your critters to help you traverse the wild areas of the island. On this island of magical outcasts you’ll be able to expand your world and soon more amazing individuals from the Other-World will come to join you.

Critter Cove

Gentleman Rat Studios

Not quite a farming sim, Critter Cove’s focus is centred around town building and life-sim elements. But rest assured it’s on our list of farming games for a reason, and you’ll still be able to get your daily planting fix. In this post-apocalyptic paradise, you’ll restore an old town, sail across a mysterious archipelago, hunt relics and farm, fish & craft everything you need. If you’ve ever played Raft this looks like it has a similar vibe but of course this time your main tourists are critters!

Out on the ocean, you’ll be able to visit many islands that are often home to mysterious ruins of a long-destroyed civilization. Dive beneath the waves to salvage the treasures of the old world. Rescue shipwrecked critters and discover treasures and foods to delight your guests. There’s a wondrous world of mysterious ruins, shipwrecks and ancient technology waiting to be discovered.

Echoes of the Plum Grove

Unwound Games

I have to say this is one of my favourite farming games on this list mostly because of its charming 2D art style. It gives a very refreshed feel to the farming sim genre and the fact that it looks like it’s set in Pioneer time is just an added bonus! In this game, you’re living in the quaint and small town of Honeywood. The people look amazing and there’s even the tease of a mystery and poison? I love the folksy vibe of this and will definitely be getting it when it comes out.

Echoes of Plum Grove is a casual, cosy farm simulator where your decisions have consequences! What to plant, what to stock for the winter, and who to befriend will shape not only the town of Honeywood but the island itself.

A New Leaf: Memories

Hidden Tower Studios

A New Leaf: Memories is the game on the list that really reminds me of one of my first farming games which was Harvest Moon on the PS1. Maybe it’s the cutesy world and characters but this looks to be a fun and cosy farming sim that takes all the classic bits of the genre that we love and updates it.

There’s nothing exactly new that A New Leaf: Memories brings to farming sims but that might be more fun for those looking for a classic experience. You’ll begin the game by looking after your own farm, growing crops, planting trees and flowers and raising animals. There will also be cooking, mining, fishing and of course developing relationships with the people of the town.

Prateek Jadhwani

Are we bored yet of the traditional farming game mechanics? (I know I’m not) but what if you played the game as a vampire? Would that be more interesting? In Brocula you are a vampire who has awakened after centuries of being asleep. You’ve managed to sustain your eternal youth but what you haven’t escaped is the dreaded town’s bureaucracy. You’ve awakened to find yourself evicted from your beloved castle and you’ll need to spend your days earning money through part-time jobs to salvage your home. Oh, the indignity of it all!

Work hard on your vampiric skills, unleash your dark reputation, regain your fortune and be ready to shape your immortal legacy once again! Did we mention that you also have a cult and a farm at your castle to tend to?

Garden Life: A Cozy Simulator

It’s great to have a game with no ambiguity in the title and this one says it all. Garden Life is a gardening sandbox game where you’ll be able to plant, cultivate and decorate your own peaceful garden oasis. This is one of those farming games where the beauty of growth is rooted more in its aesthetic, rather than in its profit-to-crop ratio. Plant and add ornaments at your own pace, transforming an overgrown forgotten plot into a flourishing community garden.

Garden Life is focused on realistic gameplay where you’re able to grow real-world flowers, shrubs, fruits and vegetables. Thanks to procedural generation and advanced growth visualization simulation technology, no two plants look identical – just like in real life. Keep your garden thriving and happy in varying weather events, give your plants the care they require, meet fun characters from your gardening community, and discover many more surprises. It looks like a gorgeous slice of life game and a true fantasy for those of us who live in the city. At least we can grow our own gardens virtually.

Tales of Seikyu

ACE Entertainment

What if a farming game was inspired by Studio Ghibli? Well, then you might get Tales of Seikyu, a Japanese fantasy farming and life RPG. Spend your days on Seikyu farming and restoring a humble countryside inn to its former glory. Along the way, you’ll meet extraordinary characters as mystical yokai inhabit the island of Seikyu. The town bustles with unique inhabitants, each possessing a captivating storyline interwoven with the land. Can you unlock their hearts, and empathize with their joys and sorrows, and as emotions intensify, will you find yourself fostering friendships and potentially blossoming romances?

There is also adventure and secrets to be discovered. On the island, you’ll be able to venture into the divine realm, a maze brimming with intriguing puzzles, and obtain ability-enhancing masks. Transform into a crow tengu and soar freely in the skies of Seikyu. Whether climbing cliffs effortlessly as a Dryad with vine powers, or diving deep as a Slime in search of hidden treasures, use your creativity to solve puzzles in novel ways.

It was about seven years ago in 2016 when the cozy gaming community lost their collective minds when Witchbrook was announced. It then took another two years for us to get an official announcement and Steam page, but since then not much else. The whole premise of Witchbrook is pretty much a cosy Harry Potter fantasy game. You start off as a wizard/witch-in training in a magical college. There you’ll navigate a spellbinding isometric world full of charm and intrigue in this richly detailed magical school and town life simulator.

The main goal of this game is to graduate and you’ll do this by building relationships with fellow students and townsfolk. Develop your magical abilities by attending classes and completing assignments. Participate in extracurricular activities such as fishing, growing magical crops and foraging strange mushrooms. And so much more. While this isn’t quite one of the farming games, farming is one of the main mechanics and I think that it very much counts! Hopefully, this is the year that we get to see Witchbrook!
