Helldivers 2 – Best Armour Sets, From Early To Late Game

Are you ready to become a hero? A legend? A Helldiver? You’re not ready cadet until you get the right armour on you! Before you begin your fight for democracy you’re going to have to gear up and Helldivers 2 offers you a wide variety of weapons, armour and stratagems. In this guide, we’ll focus on just your armour sets which you’ll choose before each mission. Some armour sets are of course better than others, but it’s also advisable to not just stick to one and to swap them out depending on what mission you’re going on.

Right now there are 19 different armour sets available for you to buy and/or earn in Helldivers 2. More are expected to be added in the future but as of now, this is what we have. We’ll update this list in the future when that happens. Armour Sets can be purchased with Medals in the Warbonds and others with Super Credits. Check out our full currency explanation here. As we mentioned earlier the best armour really depends on the mission you’re going on, whether you’re fighting Terminids or Automatons and how far into the game you are. Let’s go through all of them here soldier.

Armour Sets

Armour is made up of three parts, the Body Armour, Helmet and Cape. Each one comes with a different rating in three stats, plus there’s a passive that makes it stand out, but all fall into either light, medium, or heavy roles.

  • Light: Armor Rating – 75, Speed – 525, Stamina Regen – 113
  • Medium: Armor Rating – 100, Speed – 500, Stamina Regen – 100
  • Heavy: Armor Rating – 144, Speed – 456, Stamina Regen – 56

Armour rating will boost your damage resistance while speed will affect your running and sprinting speed. Lastly, Stamina Regen will affect the rate at which your stamina is consumed as you sprint and perform other actions. Despite its name, it doesn’t actually increase stamina recovery, just stamina consumption.

Armour Passives

PassiveDescriptionBest Use Cases
Democracy ProtectsReduces 50% of the chance of getting killed with lethal damage. Prevents all damage from bleeding if chest haemorrhages.Mid-Game or if you’re dying a lot. Fewer deaths are always good, stock those reinforces for when it matters.
Engineering KitReduces recoil when crouching or prone by 30%. Increases initial inventory and holding capacity of grenades by +2.Useful on Terminid missions to shut down nests. Also very useful in general.
Extra PaddingYou’ll get this passive with all the game’s generic armour sets. It gives more Armor Rating, which improves early-game survivability.Only use this at the beginning until you can afford better armour.
FortifiedReduces recoil when crouching or prone by 30%. Provides 50% resistance to explosive damage.Useful in Automaton missions and to survive those friendly fire airstrikes and grenades. This will save your life more times than you can count.
Med-KitIncreases initial inventory and holding capacity of Stims by +2. Increases Stim effect duration by 2.0s.One of the best passives in the game. The continuous stim effect will likely get you out of a sticky situation when you’re in danger or damaged.
Servo-AssistedIncreases throwing range by 30%. Provides +50% limb health. Not necessary. Additionally, this armour passive is only available in the Superstore and Premium Warbond Page. But the passive isn’t that helpful so this is completely missable.
ScoutMarkers placed on the map will generate radar scans every 2.0s. Reduces the range at which enemies can detect the wearer by 30%.Not necessary. Maybe if you’re playing solo and want to sneak around. In a group though this passive is a dud.

CE-35 Trench Engineer (Terminid Missions: Engineering)

Cost10 Medals (Warbonds Page 3)
Armour StatsArmour: 100 | Speed: 500 | Regen: 100
PassiveEngineering Kit: Reduces recoil when crouching or prone by 30%. Increases initial inventory and holding capacity of grenades by +2.

Having two extra grenades is always going to be useful, especially on Terminid missions when you have to clear out bug holes but don’t have a Grenade Launcher and your Orbital Strike’s still on cooldown. The extra recoil reduction is also nice if you’re using a machine gun.

CM-09 Bonesnapper (Early Game: Med Kit)

Cost15 Medals (Warbonds Page 4)
Armour StatsArmour: 100 | Speed: 500 | Regen: 100
PassiveMed-Kit: Increases initial inventory and holding capacity of Stims by +2. Increases Stim effect duration by 2.0s.

The Med-Kit passive is probably the strongest support passive in the game. It grants you an additional two stim packs to your loadout and increases the duration of each by an extra 2 seconds. The continuous healing effect keeps going for two seconds extra. Usually, when you get damaged, you’re in danger of getting damaged again, so this gives you an extra bit of survivability.

DP-40 Hero of the Federation (Early Game: Democracy Protects)

Cost25 Medals (Warbonds Page 5)
Armour StatsArmour: 100 | Speed: 500 | Regen: 100
PassiveDemocracy Protects: Reduces 50% of the chance of getting killed with lethal damage. Prevents all damage from bleeding if chest haemorrhages.

As you start facing off against bigger and tougher enemies, your armour is going to have to be upgraded in order to survive the tougher hits. A 50% chance not to die on lethal damage is great when you’ll be taking lethal damage lots. Which means more reinforces left to use.

FS-05 Marksman Set (Early Automaton Missions: Fortified)

Cost15 Medals (Warbonds Page 2)
Armour StatsArmour: 144 | Speed: 456 | Regen: 56
PassiveFortified: Reduces recoil when crouching or prone by 30%. Provides 50% resistance to explosive damage.

This is generally a heavy armour passive. As above, it’s nice to have that recoil reduction, but the best bit is 50% less explosive damage. Considering how often you’re likely to get friendly-fired by grenades and airstrikes, or even hit by Automaton missiles, this handy little reduction can be the difference between life and death a lot of the time.

FS-23 Battle Master (Late Automaton Missions: Fortified)

Cost35 Medals (Warbonds Page 6)
Armour StatsArmour: 144 | Speed: 456 | Regen: 56
PassiveFortified: Reduces recoil when crouching or prone by 30%. Provides 50% resistance to explosive damage.

CM-14 Physician (Late Game: Med Kit)

Cost70 Medals (Warbonds Page 9)
Armour StatsArmour: 100 | Speed: 500 | Regen: 100
PassiveMed-Kit: Increases initial inventory and holding capacity of Stims by +2. Increases Stim effect duration by 2.0s.

DP-11 Champion of the People (Late Game: Democracy Protects)

Cost100 Medals (Warbonds Page 10)
Armour StatsArmour: 100 | Speed: 500 | Regen: 100
PassiveDemocracy Protects: Reduces 50% of the chance of getting killed with lethal damage. Prevents all damage from bleeding if chest haemorrhages.
