The Winds of Anthos – How To Increase Cultural Level

The Winds of Anthos is an open-world farming and life sim from the beloved Harvest Moon series. Taking a different tack from their previous games, this one has some exploration and RPG elements. And while the core game remains the same such as farming, fishing, mining and making friends, there are a lot more things to do and ways to experience these mechanics.

One of the main differences is the world of The Winds of Anthos. Long before your life as a farmer in Anthos, the land was cursed by various natural disasters. So in order to protect the town the Harvest Goddess and Harvest Sprites erected a protective wall to shield each village. Now that the calamity is over the people have started waking up and it’s up to you to reunite the villages together.

There are five different villages scattered throughout the land of Anthos. They are Lenctenbury, Lilikala, Herbstburg, Zimagrad and Providence. With your help, all of them can be united and prosperous. Your mission however will not only consist of breaking down each wall but to improve a village’s cultural level as well. In this guide, we’ll go through everything you need to know about cultural levels and how to increase them for each village.

How to Increase Cultural Level

The cultural level indicates a village’s prosperity in The Winds of Anthos. A higher cultural level will not only improve the morale of the townspeople but will open more opportunities for you in the town. Every time you’re able to increase a village’s cultural level you’ll be able to see actual changes in town as well as new shops and new items.

One easy way to increase a village’s cultural level is to improve the prosperity of your own farm. You’ll acquire a unique farm in each of the five villages you’ll visit. Establish your farm, grow the crops local to the region and then sell them back to the town to increase your cultural level.

The next thing to do to bump up your cultural level is to complete the unique villager requests in each village to complete the rebuilding of the town. Once the town is rebuilt the last thing left on your agenda will be to reinstate each village’s unique festival. We’ll go through all of them here.

Lenctenbury Village

Lectenbury Village is the small village that you’ll start in and will for the most part be a tutorial for the rest of the game. Once you complete the tutorial that will show you how to mine, chop wood and plant crops, you’ll be able to access the rest of the game and the villager requests of Lenctenbury.

We won’t spoil anything here but once you’re done there will be some festivals to participate in!

The Equestrian Challenge

The Equestrian Challenge is a seasonal race that is held in the village of Providence. It tests a rider’s speed and ability to control their mount. In order to participate you don’t actually need to have a horse, any rideable mount will do or you can choose to borrow one from Martha. Although by this point in the game, you should probably have a mount, they’re essential to traversing the land of Anthos.

Villager: Speak to Martha at the Animal Shop in Providence
Requirements: Bring her 5x Board Lumber, 8x Square Lumber and 12x Material Stone

Once you’ve completed that task you’ll be able to participate in the Equestrian Challenge that will happen on the 23rd day of each Season from 10 AM to 6 PM at Providence’s Main Square.

Hint: The Equestrian Challenge despite what it’s called isn’t just for horses. In fact, any rideable animal is allowed. You’ll want the fastest animal that you can find in Anthos, which is the Blue Velociraptor. Find them at the top of the Volcano east of Lilikala.

The Critter Crawl

The Critter Crawl is a test of loyalty and friendship between you and a critter companion. This includes any pet-type animal that you can bring home. The performance of your pet on this challenge will depend on how much of a Relationship has developed.

Requirements: Bring her 5x Board Lumber, 8x Square Lumber and 12x Material Stone

Once you’ve completed that task you’ll be able to participate in the Critter Crawl that will happen on the last day of each season, the 28th from 10 AM to 6 PM at Providence Village.

The land of Anthos was a peaceful and harmonious land watched over by the Harvest Goddess and the Harvest Sprites, who protected the inhabitants of Anthos from natural disasters such as storms, earthquakes, and the like. Now, 10 years later, you have found the SOS the Harvest Goddess sent to the world in the form of a message in a bottle!
