Rhapsody 2: Ballad of the Little Princess – Best Puppets Guide

Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure is one of the first musical JRPG games that came out back in 1998. It follows the story of Cornet and her magical ability to blow her horn and bring puppets to life. It’s a sweet and magical little adventure, but unfortunately, the rest of the game’s series wasn’t released in the West until most recently. So now after twenty years Rhapsody 2: Ballad of the Little Princess is out on the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC!

This game has a lot of nostalgia for me and if you’re looking for a sweet and cute little JRPG with magic, music and adventure then this is a good one to get. Rhapsody 2 takes place after the first game’s events and follows the daughter of our original protagonist Cornet. Her daughter, Princess Kururu is heir to the Marl Kingdom and is expected to be a prim and proper lady. But just like her mother, she is looking for a life of adventure, excitement and love.

Kururu has the same gift as her mother and is able to bring puppets to life. And with these puppets, you’ll use them to battle and go on your adventures. There are 15 different puppets that you can obtain in Rhapsody 2, with some of them being hidden and completely missable. Here’s our guide into how to get all the puppets, their attacks and which are the best puppets for your lineup. We’ve arranged the list in order from worst to best objectively.

Tell

Location: Defeat the Chimera in the Ancient Civilization in Act 8.
Element: Earth

Tell is one of the three egg brothers along with Billy and Kid. In the first game, he and his brothers become Chimera eggs in order to keep the flow of time. This explains why you must defeat different Chimera’s to get all the egg brothers. Tell is by far the most useless of the egg brothers, with low attack, defence and no magic abilities. He has nothing going for him except that he uses a ranged attack. Pass.

Bullseye10
Multi Arrow20

Duke

Location:  Defeat the Berg Boss in Act 3 in the Ice Cream Dungeon. After that, return to the dungeon and head to one of the west rooms to find Duke. Fight him to recruit him.
Element: Water

You’ll get Duke at a point where you can use him but likely not for long because the rest of the puppets start to outclass him pretty quickly moving forward. He is one of the rare water types though if that counts for anything (it doesn’t).

SkillsLevel

Super Leviathan40

Terra

Location: At the beginning of the game in the Marl Castle Courtyard, let the two women there know you’re Cornet’s daughter.
Element: Dark

Terra is an attack-type puppet and is the sister to Sharte. Her Dark attacks pack a punch especially at the beginning of the game, and she has a long list of them. But I didn’t carry her onto my endgame.

SkillsDescriptionLevel
MeteoriteA weak, low-cost Dark-elemental spell.1
Mega MeteoriteAn average-strength Dark-elemental spell.7
MeteorA weak, low-cost Dark-elemental spell that affects targets within an area.11
Giga MeteorAn average-strength Dark-elemental spell that affects targets within an area.18
Giga MeteoriteA powerful Dark-elemental spell.25
Omega MeteorA powerful Dark-elemental spell that affects targets within an area.32
DeathInstantly kills a single foe with a reasonably high degree of accuracy, except against bosses.35

Ancient Weapon

Location: You’ll automatically recruit them from Cello as part of the main story.
Element: Lightning

Ancient Weapon is fairly comparable to L-Kun and they’re fairly comparable to me on this list, with Koro being the better lightning option anyway.

SkillsLevel
Mega Lightning1
Miracle Wall18
Giga Lightning25
Giga Heal26
Omega Storm30
Genocide Strike40

L-kun

Location: Rosenqueen Theme Park dungeon in Act 8.
Element: Lightning
Puppet: All-Rounder

L-Kun has the cutest origin story because he was actually a puppet that Cornet had to wear as a dress in the first Rhapsody game. He’s a good all-rounder type and don’t forget to use his life-saving Miracle Wall when faced with tough magic users.

SkillsLevel

Mega Lightning8
Storm12
Giga Storm18
Miracle Wall20
Giga Lightning25
Omega Storm32

Flare

Location: In Red Hot Village, you’ll need to talk to the NPCs in the Fish Restaurant in Mothergreen to get its location. Then talk to the NPCs in Red Hot to take a quiz and obtain Flare.
Element: Wind

Flare is a tiny baby dragon and he is so cute. Not the fastest boi but he has some solid physical and magical attacks.

SkillsLevel
Wind1
Mega Wind8
Tornado10
Trick Wind11
Wind Speed12
Giga Tornado18
Giga Wind25
Omega Tornado32

Chiba

Location: Act 7 when you crash land, take the north fork in the jungle to go into a waterfall cave and find them in a room in the dungeon. Answer “yes”, and fight him.
Element: Earth
Puppet: DPS with High Speed

I’m struggling with where to put Chiba on this list because he’s a solid physical attack puppet, but is not as good as Kid. He however has a solid set of skills that improve his strength. I think his place on your roster will depend on whether you value physical attacks over magic-infused ones.

SkillsDescriptionLevel
SenpuElevates Chiba’s strength.1
SippuElevates Chiba’s strength.20
ReppuElevates Chiba’s strength.40

Albatross

Location: Act 6 in Beauty Castle after seeing Marjoly [Missable]
Element: Fire
Puppet: Solid DPS, good all-rounder.

A Fire-elemental, long-range puppet with a tremendous physical attack. If you have Albatross on your team you won’t need to worry about much as it’s likely that things will go your way.

SkillsDescriptionLevel
Fairy FireAn average-strength Fire-elemental spell.1
Elven FireAn average-strength Fire-elemental spell that affects an area.15
Demon FireA powerful Fire-elemental spell that affects an area.30

Koro

Location: Inside Bob Bobo’s body in Act 4 is an Old Dog you can rescue. Return the dog back to Koro in Orange Village to get it to join you.
Element: Lightning
Puppet: DPS with High Speed

Koro was a dog owned by Alfred who lives in Orange Village but was killed after he saved Alfred from drowning. For his heroic deeds, Koro was reincarnated as a robotic dog puppet. Koro is an excellent Lightning choice to bring into battle and Charm/Para Howl can slow down your enemies.

Dark Howl35

Billy

Location: Defeat the Chimera in the Cat Eye Mines Dungeon in Act 4.
Element: Fire
Puppet: Magic DPS

Billy is one of the three egg brothers along with Tell and Kid. In the first game, he and his brothers become Chimera eggs in order to keep the flow of time. This explains why you must defeat different Chimera’s to get all the egg brothers. Billy has amazing magic DPS but it’s coupled with poor physical attack, defence and speed. So bust him out when you need to.

Mega Fire8
Flame12
Brave Heart13
Giga Flame18
Giga Fire25
Omega Flame32

Kid

Location: Defeat the Chimera in the Ice Dungeon in Act 8 [Missable].
Element: Wind
Best Puppet For: Physical Attack DPS, Tank class.

Kid is one of the three egg brothers along with Tell and Billy. In the first game, he and his brothers become Chimera eggs in order to keep the flow of time. This explains why you must defeat different Chimera’s to get all the egg brothers. Kid along with Nightspawn has very strong physical DPS, the only thing is that Kid has no magic abilities. So this will depend on your battle situation.

SkillsLevel

Trick Wind10
Wind Speed11

Child Ledgem

Location: Automatically recruited at the beginning of the game.
Element: Dark

We meet Ledgem in Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure and learn that he is the messenger of Fate and the God of Darkness. He packs a punch with his Dark-elemental spells and you’ll find his mass poisonings and MegaCharm extremely useful.

SkillsLevel
Meteorite1

Mega Sleep15
Mega Poison16
Mega Charm17

Sharte

Location: At the beginning of the game in the Marl Castle Courtyard, let the two women there know you’re Cornet’s daughter.
Element: Holy
Best Puppet For: Healing

Sharte and Terra are sisters who used to belong to Cornet. It’s interesting that you get her at the beginning of the game because she’s actually one of the best puppets. Her ability to heal will save you time and time again and she has some solid Holy damage skill if you want to build her that way.

SkillsLevel

Mega Heal8

Giga Heal All18
Giga Heal25
Giga Saint26
Omega Heal All32

Older Flare

Location: Take the quiz where you got Flare again in Red Hot to get an Older Flare.
Element: Fire and Wind
Best Puppet For: Magic DPS

Older Flare is as the name suggests, a grown-up dragon version of Flare that brings with it significant attack upgrades. Use him for his Fire and Wind Magic DPS.

SkillsLevel

Location: Talk to the Principal in Mothergreen after completing all the entries in the Observation Book except for Child Ledgem. (You have to do this before you finish the game).
Element: Dark
