Road 96 is one of those hidden gem indie games from back in 2021. A special little game that takes you into a uniquely memorable adventure story on the road. It’s one that’s full of unique offbeat characters, chill tunes and deep emotional moments. Now Digixart is back with a prequel to the game – Road 96: Mile 0.
Road 96: Mile 0 gives us the origin story of Zoe and Kaito, two teenagers who want to escape from their lives, and who are in radically opposite social strata. Zoe comes from the rich side of the city and her father works for the government. Kaito, a character from Lost in Harmony, lives in a less privileged area. Their journey in Road 96: Mile 0 will challenge their friendship and everything they believe in.
They say money doesn’t buy happiness, nor friendship. And through it all, you’ll have choices to make. Which one will you choose to give them that happy ending? In Road 96: Mile 0 you can receive one of four endings depending on the choices you make. We’ll go through them all here.
– – – SPOILER WARNING – – –
The Worst Ending

Actions: Call The Police as Zoe & Choose to Become a Brigade as Kaito
Result: Kaito gets arrested and his parents get shot
Be warned that this is the most tragic ending of Road 96: Mile 0.
In this ending, you as Zoe are calling the cops on suspected brigade activity even after spotting Kaito and his family. While as Kaito you get your IDs from Robert in exchange for a file. This is where you can choose to accept the gun and become a full-fledged brigade. Do it.
Before you leave however Zoe takes the files and starts a heartbreaking fight with Kaito. Who wins or loses the fight has no consequences. In the end, Zoe will take the file anyway, leaving before the police arrive.
By then the police have come and Kaito will be involved in a shootout where his parents are shot and he’ll be forced to surrender. In the meantime, Zoe reads the file and realises the horrible mistake she’s made… but it’s too late.
The Sad Ending

Action: Call The Police as Zoe & Do Not Choose to Become a Brigade as Kaito
Result: Kaito’s parents sacrifice themselves for him and he’s left alone
The events transpire similarly to the previous ending up until the part before the police come. After Zoe has left and you’ve chosen not to become a Brigade, Robert betrays you by holding Kaito’s parents at gunpoint. Kaito manages to get a good hit on Robert before the police arrive and when they do Robert runs away.
In order to save Kaito his parents surrender themselves to the police and get Kaito to run. Kaito gets separated from his family and is forced to continue on his journey alone.
The Bad Ending

Action: Do Not Call The Police as Zoe & Become a Brigade as Kaito
Result: Kaito leaves his parents to become a Brigade with Robert
In this scenario, in the end, the police do not come but Robert still whips out his gun at Kaito’s parents. Instead of Kaito punching him however Robert shoots at the ground instead. And Kaito leaves with him to become a Brigade. He separates from his parents and joins Robert in his car. We don’t know what happens to his parents in this scenario
The Hopeful Ending

Action: Do Not Call The Police as Zoe & Do Not Become a Brigade as Kaito
Result: The family drives towards freedom
This is probably the best ending we can hope for in Road 96: Mile 0.
This time like before no police come, but Robert still pulls his gun on Kaito’s parents and doesn’t shoot. But instead of Kaito leaving with him he leaves with his parents. They take the car and take the long way towards the border perhaps. And while it’s not the best it might be the best ending of Road 96 Mile 0.
