How To Sandfish

Sandrock is a place without water so how does one go fishing you may ask? Well by fishing through the sand. There are five different fishing spots around Sandrock where you’ll need to use a Sandfish Trap to fish. The Sandfish Trap is a claw machine-like device that scoops up the fish from the sand.

Here is how to catch fish in My Time at Sandrock.

  1. Much like fishing, you’ll need to select some bait to lure fish out.
  2. Use the mouse to then aim and left-click to toss some bait out. The bait will slowly sink into the sand and eventually disappear over time.
  3. Fish will approach the bait and stop to eat it. That’s when you can start fishing.
  4. Next, select the sandfish trap and hold left-click, and the mouse to aim the trap. Aim it over a fish which will be highlighted if aimed properly.
  5. Release the left click to deploy the trap before the fish flees. (Other fish nearby will panic and flee from the bait once the trap is deployed.)

Whether or not the player catches the fish, stamina and bait are consumed and time passes.

Sandfish And Their Locations

There are five sandfishing spots around Sandrock, with some being only able to be accessed later in the game. Each of the fishing spots will attract a different type of fish and require different types of bait and sandfish traps.

Paradise Lost

The first and easiest to access fishing spot can be found near the Wild Yakmel Habitat or beside the entrance to Paradise Lost Hazardous Ruins and Eufaula Salvage Shop.

The Wild Yakmel nearby will not attack unless provoked, allowing the player to sandfish peacefully.

How To Get The Sandfish Trap

Early on in the game, the handsome proprietor of the Blue Moon Saloon, Owen is going to send you a letter requesting some Sand Carp. With it comes a helpful Recipe for making the Basic Sandfish Trap.

Most of these items can be made fairly easily from basic resources at your Workshop. But if you haven’t gotten the Thick Rope Recipe yet, you’ll need to pick it up at the Commerce Guild.

This Basic Sandfish Trap is the first Sandfishing tool you’re going to be able to get. Later on, you’ll be able to unlock the Advanced Sandfish Trap and Professional Sandfish Trap. With them, you’ll be able to catch bigger fish and several fish simultaneously, as their ‘Catch Radius’ will considerably improve.

Basic Sandfish Trap

Recipe: From Owen during ‘World of Sandfishing’ Mission
Materials: 2x Copper Bars, 2x Wooden Stick, and 1x Thick Rope
Catch Radius: 0.30
Max Fish per Catch: 2

Advanced Sandfish Trap

Recipe: Bought from the Commerce Guild Store
Materials: 3x Steel Bars, 1x Bronze Stick, and 2x Copper Wire
Catch Radius: 0.50
Max Fish per Catch: 3

Professional Sandfish Trap

Recipe: Bought from the Commerce Guild Store. Crafted using an Advanced Worktable.
Materials: 5x Magnesium Aluminium Alloy, 2x Transmission Shaft, and 2x Iron Wire

Types Of Bait

Apart from the Sandfishing Trap, the second thing you’re going to need to catch fish is bait. Bait brings the fish to the surface and holds them still long enough for you to catch them.

Each bait will attempt to attract 4 waves of fish in turn, at 1-second intervals. The later the wave, the higher the rarity. Each type of bait has a maximum number of attracted fish number. When a bait attracts the maximum number of fish, it will stop attracting subsequent waves.
