Demonologist – Beginner Tips and Tricks

Demonologist is a co-op horror game that can be played with at least 1 and up to 4 players. Your goal is to identify the type of evil spirit in cursed places and exorcise it using your equipment, either alone or with your team. Even if it is just an early-access game, Demonologist has given us a lot to ponder about. It is a very promising game and if this is the standard of early access, we can’t imagine what the full game will be like.

Still, going into this game blind can be troublesome, especially if you are not familiar with multiplayer horror games. Not to worry though, we’ve got your back. Because today, we will be bringing some handy tips and tricks dedicated to beginners who are interested in making this game their first horror game experience.

Without any further delay, let’s start!

Understanding the Tools

As a demon hunter of sorts, you will require the help of specific tools to finish your job. Therefore, knowing how each tool operates will give players a significant advantage as they will know when to use and not to use the equipment.

Here are some of the more useful and important tools that you might want to prioritise in Demonologist.

Candle

Gives you light which helps in controlling your sanity level. It is one of the most basic survival tools in this game and a mighty important one.

Ouija Board

The Ouija Board is a tool that you want to find immediately when you enter a new premise. You can ask the board questions and it will reveal valuable information regarding the demons lurking in the area.

Crucifix

A defensive item that protects you from offensive demons. The crucifix can come in extremely clutch at times and you never know when a demon might strike out of the blue. Very handy and reliable for beginner players.

Sanity Pills

When consumed, the pills will restore your sanity. Your sanity meter is like your health bar and there will be instances where it will take a hit from unforeseen circumstances. Having a healthy amount of pills around as backup can never be a bad thing.

While there are more tools to be discovered in Demonologist, these are the few that you want to take note of. As you progress deeper, you will notice these are the tools that you will frequently use so it is best to get a hang of them from the start.

Search Everything

When it comes to atmosphere and vibes, Demonologist screams darkness and desolation. Certain areas are filled with ruined objects while others might be as barren as it gets. Ironically, it is actually pretty easy to miss a thing or two given the conditions of these places.

Always be on high alert for potential things you might miss. As we’ve mentioned, your tools are there to help you. Most of the time, using a candle or a flashlight can reveal objects hidden in the dark. Thermostats are also useful in telling you the temperature that will give you hints on whether a demon is nearby or not.

Outside of relying on tools, just make sure to look around. Check every corner of the area to ensure that you did not miss out on anything. Take your time and snuff out any possible information there is available in the area.

Beware of Apparitions

Visually, the apparitions that haunt you are not that menacing. Their transparent figures might give you a small jumpscare. However, they do give a tell and you can consider them an omen of what’s to come.

Whenever you encounter an Apparition, you will need to be on your toes. Meeting one doesn’t spell the end of the world but sometimes, they will follow you and bite you from the back. For beginners, they can generally assume that it is high time for them to leave the area when meeting an Apparition.

Apparitions are warning signs and it is one of the game’s ways to tell the players to get the hell out as soon as possible.

Knowing the Demons

In total, there are 24 types of demons in this game. Each demon has its own characteristics and it’ll take time to remember all of them. These demons have their own quirks and behaviours but most importantly, there are specific tools that identify them.

For instance, the Boogey demon can be revealed using the Spirit Box while a Jinn can be identified based on the freezing temperature of the area. We know this can get overwhelming but as you play, you’ll gain experience and this information will come naturally to you.

To help you out, here are the more common tools and signs you can use to reveal the more common demons:

  • EMF
  • ESG
  • Easel Canvas Drawings
  • Fingerprints

Always Check Your Sanity Level

Earlier, we mentioned that your sanity level is essentially your life bar. Once that is depleted, that also means the end of the game where you have a mental breakdown and die. Make sure it does not come to that.

Let it be known that almost anything that jumpscares you – even by just meeting an entity will reduce your sanity level. It’s very vulnerable and something you need to take care of throughout your entire playthrough.

This is where sanity pills, holy water and any source of light will come in handy. These saviours will help increase your sanity level, in short, keeping you from meeting your maker. That said, these resources are very limited so make careful use of them. Do not spend them luxuriously and only use them when you extremely need them.
