Happy New Year Gamers! It’s 2023 and that just means we’ve entered a new gaming year full of endless possibilities. There are so many games being promised to be released this year (let’s see). From brand-new, highly anticipated sequels, to stellar remakes. 2023 is chock full of daring new titles and games that we’ve been waiting for years! Here are some of the most anticipated games for you to look out for in 2023!
The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the launch of the Nintendo Switch back in 2017 was a pivotal turning point in video game history. The story, the world, the refresh of a classic. Everything about the game was flawless. And since that year we’ve been eagerly anticipating the next instalment in the Legend of Zelda series.
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom brings us back to the Kingdom of Hyrule and this time lets us take to the skies. There’s a lot of anticipation riding on Tears of the Kingdom but if it brings us back the same magic as Breath of the Wild that’ll be good enough for me.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
No game quite embodies the spirit of RPG games in the ’90s quite like Final Fantasy VII. And the remake that came out of the game back in 2020 was an excellent homage to that. Taking us back to the world of Midgard and reintroducing us to our favourite characters. There was a lot of pressure riding on this remake and thankfully they managed to deliver. Kinda.
When it was announced that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was going to be split into three parts, I thought this was going to be a terrible idea. But after playing the first instalment and seeing the intricate detail that was put into Midgar, how gorgeous the world-building and character design was. I’d gladly be patient enough for the next one. No spoilers here but once you get to the end of Part 1, you’ll be just as excited about this game in 2023 as I am.

Dead Space (Remake)
The original Dead Space that launched back in 2008 was a core memory for a lot of gamers. Some call it one of the greatest video games of all time. Effectively cementing it as a cornerstone of the Survival Horror game genre. While there have been releases of Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3, they both haven’t really come close to the magic of the original Dead Space.
It’s a bit of a risk remaking such a beloved classic and I can just imagine the outraged fans if it’s not done right. But based on the trailers the whole thing looks amazing. We won’t have to wait in anticipation long for this one, however, because it’ll be launching later this month.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Is there a huge amount of Star Wars content out right now? Yes. Will I still be playing all the Star Wars video games that come out? Also yes. Not all Star Wars games are created equal but Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the prequel to this upcoming game completely took me by surprise. The intricate storytelling is a celebration of an emotional journey, complete with the established world of this legendary space opera.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues Cal Kestis’ journey 5 years after the events of the previous game. As we play through one of the darkest times in Jedi history. As one of the last surviving Jedi Knights, Cal is driven to make a stand during the galaxy’s darkest times — but how far is he willing to go to protect himself, his crew, and the legacy of the Jedi Order.

Hogwarts Legacy
Since the launch of the Harry Potter books, a full RPG game like Hogwarts Legacy is everything that I’ve always wanted. The ability to live in the magical Wizarding World and attend Hogwarts is everything my nerdy teenage self longed for and now I can.
Set outside the time of Harry Potter, you play as a fifth-year student attending Hogwarts. Everything you do is your choice, including the house you get sorted into, the friends you make the subjects that you study. There are a ton of areas to explore, both familiar and unfamiliar. And maybe even a magical villain or two for you to take down.

The Wolf Among Us 2
If you missed out on reading the Fables graphic novel or The Wolf Among Us, then you’ve missed out on one of the most amazing fantasy stories to date. After the collapse of Telltale Games, I was most saddened that The Wolf Among Us would not get a sequel. But it turns out you can’t keep a Bad Wolf down because we’re getting a part 2 in 2023.
The Wolf Among Us is set in a world where all your favourite fairy tale characters have been forced into the human world and try to live normal lives in Fabletown. However, rather than just rehash the stories already told on paper, the games are set 20 years prior to the comics. And the main character Bigby aka The Big Bad Wolf plays a hard-talking detective. A sort of enforcer for the residents of Fabletown. It’s a fun and encapsulating film-noir-type detective story set in the background of fairy tale characters as you’ve never seen them before.

Story Of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
It may seem like a Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is coming out of the left field, especially in comparison to the other games on this list. But if you’re a ’90s kid who started playing farm sims, then you’ll know what this is about. The original Harvest Moon that inspired the likes of Stardew Valley is back for a beloved classic remake. For legal issues however it’s now called Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life.
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life revisits the tranquil community of Forgotten Valley where you’ll fulfil the dream of your father of running a farm. As the seasons go by, you’ll make friends, maybe find love, have a child and who knows what else! I’m not sure how different this game will be from the original or even all the other farming games out there, but I’m still excited about it nonetheless.

Forspoken
Forspoken is a fresh new IP from Luminous Productions and Square Enix that looks to be vying for blockbuster success. Following two delays in 2022, Forspoken is finally set to launch on January 24th 2023. The new action RPG from Square Enix is worth keeping an eye on for several reasons, chief among them being its all-star writing team of Rogue One’s Gary Whitta, Uncharted’s Amy Hennig and Todd Stashwick (Uncharted), and Shadowhunters’ Allison Rymer.
Forspoken’s isekai narrative concept sees protagonist Frey transported from modern-day New York City into Athia, a fantastical world of magic and deep mythology. As Frey journeys to return home, she’ll learn other-worldly abilities that aid in both combat and traversal.

Wild Hearts
Wild Hearts is EA’s answer to Monster Hunter, an all-new game in which players hunt and craft across a fantastical semi-open world inspired by Feudal Japan. This game aims to revolutionise the entire action-adventure genre with bigger monster battles, new tools for traps and fighting, and plenty of dazzling locales to conquer. This game will send players on a wild journey through the land of Azuma, a fantasy realm inspired by feudal Japan, with each corner of this world plagued by a cavalcade of ‘Kemono’ monsters.
While the gameplay will seem very familiar to fans of Capcom’s Monster Hunter series, Wild Hearts looks packed to the brim with new ideas that should spice up your journey, and keep you hooked on the next quest in the distance.

Dead Island 2
Dead Island 2 has shockingly risen from the dead. Following an eight-year development journey across three different studios, Dead Island 2 will finally see the light of day in 2023.
In this adventure, you’re tasked with beating back infected zombies, surviving with a small band of immune humans, and winning back the entire city of Los Angeles through bloody and desperate fights. You’ll have a range of weapons at your disposal to complete your mission, including a deadly katana, glass bottles, and a shotgun. Looks like any way you slice it Dead Island 2 looks like a lot of fun.
