Early Game – Nidavellir Armor Set

Focus: Vitality, Health Regeneration
Abilities: Stun Grabbing an Enemy (R3) Grants A Health Burst

In the early hours of God of War Ragnarok, you’ll have little resources to work with. But what little you do have should be spent on forging the right armor. The right early game armour being the Nidavellir armor set.

The key trait of the Nidavellir set is a focus on health regeneration. In the early hours of the game, it’s helpful to have a boost in health to make sure Kratos doesn’t lose more often than needed.

How To Get Nidavellir Armor Set

Location: Bay of Bounty in Svartalfheim

One of the first places that your journey will lead you on is Svartalfheim. Once there make your way to the Bay of Bounty, where Mimir will ask a Favor of you: starting the sidequest – In Service of Asgard.

Your task will be to destroy the three mining towers across the Bay. Doing so will award you with Nidavellir Ore. You will need six ore to take to Sindri or Brok to craft the Nidavellir rmor aet.

Mid-Game – Lunda’s Armor Set

Focus: Poison Damage
Abilities: Increased chance to inflict and increase poison damage on enemies

Lunda’s armor is great at dealing additional damage to enemies in the form of poison. And secondly you can get this set pretty early on.

It imbues all of your bare-handed attacks with an extremely high chance to afflict enemies with the poison status that deals damage over time. This works very, very well if you throw your Leviathan Axe at an enemy, don’t call it back, sock them a few times with bare-handed melee to inflict poison, then recall your axe to restart the process.

How To Get Lunda’s Armor Set

Location: The Veiled Passage in Vanaheim
Requirements: Chapter 6

Lunda’s Armor Set is something easily missed in God of War Ragnarok. You’ll have to go out of your way to pick up a pretty lengthy sidequest, but it’s well worth it as this armor set will help you sail into the late game.

To start the quest you’ll need to find Lunda at Freyr’s Camp in Vanaheim. Talk to her to start Lunda’s Lost Armor labor.

Find the three damaged pieces of the armor around the River Delta. This opens up after fighting the Nidhogg boss fight in Vanaheim – just go back to the smiths’ shop in Freyr’s camp to get it. Then search the areas marked in the map above to find them as artifacts.

Once you have them, head back to Lunda to get them fixed up.

Late Game – Berserker Armor Set

Focus: Strength
Abilities: Increases the damage of your Melee Attack but also damage recieved

The Berserker armor set will make Kratos a general powerhouse with excellent Strength and Defense.

In terms of perks, the Berserker set causes Kratos to temporarily gain increased melee damage after using a Relic ability while also taking increased damage. Furthermore, there’s a low Luck chance to cause a Soul Explosion in battle. These Soul Explosions are excellent as they deal damage and restore some of the cooldown timer for your currently equipped Relic, allowing you to spam some incredibly powerful abilities much more often.

Recommended Relic Pairing: Hilt of Skofnung

How To Get Berserker Armor Set

To get the Berserker armor set, you’ll need to defeat Berserkers at Berserker Gravestones throughout the Realms. Thankfully you don’t need to defeat all of them to get the armor, but you will need to defeat the final one found in King’s Grave in Midgard to get the Hilt of Skofnung Relic, which we highly recommend.

Defensive Armor – Steinbjorn Armor

Focus: Defense
Abilities: Increase Defense, Lifesteal and Shockwave Counter Attack

The Steinbjorn armor makes for an incredibly resilient build that actually grants more Defense than the UI bar can even show, as well as granting lifesteal and stunning shockwaves when Kratos takes damage. So not only will even the toughest bosses do piddling damage when they hit you, Kratos auto-retaliates and even gets that health back for hitting them, Bloodborne-style.

How To Get Steinbjorn Armor Set

At the Lake of Nine in Midgard is behind a bank of ice that you can destroy with the Draupnir Spear. At its Southern edge, break the ice and you’ll find the Mystical Heirloom Relic. This relic can be used to awaken four trolls frozen, in Midgard, Alfheim and Vanaheim.

Troll Locations:

  • Midgard – Derelict Outpost
  • Alfheim – The Forbidden Sands
  • Vanaheim – Noatun’s Garden in the River Delta (x2 trolls)

Once you defeat the trolls you can collect Slumber Stones which are used to craft the armor set.

Offensive Armor – Guiding Light Armor

Focus: Strength, Runic, Luck
Abilities: All attacks have a moderate chance to boost strength, runic, critical or luck

How To Get Guiding Light Armor Set

Found as part of the Guiding Light Favor in the Lake of Nine. There you’ll find runes and messages left behind by Tyr on his destroyed statue. While not an official reward, right next to each message (marked above) is a buried treasure with one of the three armor pieces in, glinting gold to make sure you don’t miss them.
