Veggies

Carrot

Favourite Food: None
Location: The Overgrowth, The Dry Reef, The Moss Blanket, The Indigo Quarry, The Ancient Ruins, The Glass Desert, The Wilds
Decay Time: 36 Hours
Growable: Yes. Maximum x20 Harvest

The Carrot is the most common and most accessible vegetable in Slime Rancher, and is very helpful for feeding veg-eating slimes, such as the Cotton Slime or Rock Slime. However because no Slime favors it, it will never produce double the number of Plorts produced.

For this reason, it may be unwise to grow Carrots unless you don’t yet have access to favoured foods. However, due to its large harvest yield, it may be suitable to burn and make ash for Fire Slimes.

Heart Beet

Favourite Food: Rock Slime
Location: The Dry Reef, The Indigo Quarry, The Ancient Ruins, The Glass Desert, The Wilds
Decay Time: 36 Hours
Growable: Yes. Maximum x15 Harvest

Heart beets get their name from their deep, red color and heart-like shape. Heart beets are also unusually juicy for a beet, making it the only veggie that’s not for the squeamish in the kitchen.

The consistency of the Heart Beets’ growth and harvest yield makes Rock Slimes a decent choice for converting harder-to-feed or more valuable Slimes into Largos.

Oca Oca

Favourite Food: Rad Slime
Location:
Decay Time: 36 Hours
Growable: Yes. Maximum x15 Harvest

A staple of cooking on the range, the hearty Oca Oca is a naturally salty, soft spud. As the key ingredient to the always tasty ‘rancher’s hashbrowns’, they have likely been the fuel for a great deal of slime wrangling since their discovery on the range.

Oca Ocas grow consistently with a decent harvest yield, so having Rad Largos are a decent choice for the Ranch.

Odd Onion

Favourite Food: Crystal Slime
Location: Ember Valley
Decay Time: 36 Hours
Growable: Yes. x? Variable Harvest.

Odd Onions can be found sporadically around Ember Valley but you’ll be unable to grow a dedicated Odd Onion patch at home. But do note that if you plant an Odd Onion, there is no guarantee it will also grow to be an Odd Onion.

Instead, Odd Onions have a chance to grow in Carrot and Heart Beet patches. Due to the relatively small amount of Odd Onions that grow per harvest, it would probably be wise to convert Crystal Slimes into Largos with a favoured food that is easier to grow.

Water Lettuce

Favourite Food: Cotton Slime
Location: Rainbow Fields, Starlight Strand, Ember Valley
Decay Time: 26 Hours
Growable: Yes

Like a desert bloom or a deep sea pearl, water lettuce is a small miracle. The dry season can be difficult for wildlife on the Far, Far Range. But through the humble water lettuce, nature has found a way to provide. The water stored inside the plant prevents its leaves from wilting under the sun’s rays, and in turn the crisp leaves keep the water cool and protected, perfect for a thirsty critter in search of relief from the heat.

Meat

Briar Hen

Favourite Food: Boom Slime
Location: Ember Valley
Growable: Yes

Briar hens are a chicken variant born from the wild thickets of the Far, Far Range. They were first discovered long ago by an explorer who noted that they seemed to have a complex tribal structure, and a fascinating series of chicken customs.

Briar Hens are the most common and most widely available Meat in the game. Briar Hens are often found by nests accompanied by their Chickadoo counterparts and occasionally a Roostro. Briar Hens in close proximity to Roostros will periodically lay eggs that produce Chickadoos.

Chickadoo

Favourite Food: Not Edible
Location: Everywhere
Growable: Yes (6 Hours)

Chickadoos spawn from nests with Hens. They can be produced domestically in a coop by a Hen if it is in the presence of a Roostro, and will itself grow up into a Hen or – more rarely – a Roostro. Chickadoos of all varieties will never be eaten by slimes. Until it grows up (6 in-game hours), Slimes will not eat it.

Hen Hen

Favourite Food: None
Location: Rainbow Fields. Common Spawn.
Growable: Yes

Hen Hens are a special breed of chicken bred to survive the climate of the Far, Far Range. While appearing more or less like a big chicken, these burly birds are much more adept at fending for themselves, making them ideal for ranchers who might otherwise be distracted by a few hundred hungry slimes.

Hen Hens are the most common and most widely available Meat in Slime Rancher. Hen Hens are often found by nests accompanied by their Chickadoo counterparts and occasionally a Roostro. Hen Hens in close proximity to Roostros will periodically lay eggs that produce Chickadoos.

Elder Hen

Favourite Food: None
Location:
Growable: Yes

Elder Hens are what all Hens, regardless of what type they were originally, have a chance of degrading into after producing a Chickadoo. Every time a Hen lays an egg they have a chance to become an Elder Hen. They can no longer lay eggs in this state. They can be fed to Slimes, though no Slime favours them.

Roostro

Favourite Food: Hunter Slime
Location: Southwest of Rainbow Island. Uncommon Spawn.
Growable: Yes

Roostros are the alpha birds on the Far, Far Range and half of the equation required to breed chickens on the ranch. They are uncommon and are spawned from nests, maturing chicks and crates. Roostros are necessary for hens to begin producing eggs which immediately hatch into chicks. This process is more efficient in a coop, especially when upgraded.

It’s recommended that you have at least 2-3 Roostros in your Coops. Since if they become old, the hens will stop making eggs. Due to their rarity, it is not recommended to feed Roostros to Hunter Slimes.

Elder Roostro

Favourite Food: None
Location:
Growable: Yes

Elder Roostro are what all Roostro, regardless of what type they were originally, have a chance of degrading into after producing a Chickadoo. Roostros have a low chance of turning elder after producing a chickadoo with a hen. They can no longer reproduce in this state. They can be fed to Slimes, though no Slime favours them.

Sea Hen

Favourite Food: Angler Slime
Location: Rare Spawn.
Growable: Yes

Old sailors say that Sea Hens are actually demons in disguise, and that their vacant expressions are actually a diabolically calculated misdirect to hide evil intent. Plotting, waiting for their moment… to strike.

Sea Hens in close proximity to Roostros will periodically lay eggs that produce Sea Chickadoos.

Stony Hen

Favourite Food: Tabby Slime
Location: Rainbow Fields, Ember Valley. Rare Spawn.
Growable: Yes

Stony Hens are thought to have evolved from Hen Hens who once trekked deep into the mountains of the Far, Far Range. Perhaps these birds were seeking a clarity of mind that one can truly obtain through meditation amongst these lofty, barren crags. But most likely, they were just stupid and got lost.

They can also be found in crates, and offered as a reward on the Range Exchange. Stony Hens in close proximity to Roostros will periodically lay eggs that produce Stony Chickadoos.

Thundercluck Hen

Favourite Food: Saber Slime
Location: Powderfall Bluffs
Growable: Yes

Thought to be extinct for over a billion years, Thunderclucks are a variety of prehistoric hen that ruled the roost during the Jellasic Period. Thunderclucks in close proximity to roostros will periodically lay eggs that produce Thunder Chickadoos.

Fruit

Cuberry

Favourite Food: Phosphor Slime
Location: Rainbow Fields
Decay Time: 36 Hours
Growable: Yes. x15 Harvest

Cuberries grow consistently with a decent harvest yield, so converting harder-to-feed Slimes to Phosphor Largos is a decent choice for the Ranch.

Mint Mango

Favourite Food: Honey Slime
Location: Starlight Strand
Decay Time: 36 Hours
Growable: Yes. x15 Harvest

Mint Mangoes are found in the same areas as Honey Slimes. Mint Mangoes grow consistently, have a decent harvest yield and the Honey Plorts are fairly valuable, if you’re looking to rake in those plorts Honey Largos are going to be your best bet.

Phase Lemon

Favourite Food: Quantum Slime
Location:
Decay Time: 36 Hours
Growable: Yes. x15 Harvest

Phase Lemons are unusual because they cannot be acquired simply by sucking them off the tree with the Vacpack, due to being out of phase with the world. Shooting a fruit into the tree when the lemons are ripe will cause them to phase into reality and fall to the ground, making it possible to collect them. This causes the fruit fired into the tree to be lost.

After acquiring a Phase Lemon they can be planted in a farm plot to create a tree that can be harvested normally using the Vacpack, which is far easier than having to track them down at their constantly changing locations in the wild.

Pogofruit

Favourite Food: None
Location: Everywhere
Decay Time: 36 Hours
Growable: Yes. x20 Harvest

The Pogofruit is the most common and most accessible fruit in Slime Rancher and is very helpful for feeding Fruit-eating slimes, such as The Phosphor Slime or the Honey Slime. However because no Slime favours it, it will never produce double the number of Plorts.

For this reason, it may be unwise to grow Pogofruits unless you don’t yet have access to favoured foods. However, due to its large harvest yield, it may be suitable to burn and make ash for Fire Slimes.

Pomegranite

Favourite Food: Batty Slime
Location: Starlight Strand – Caves, Ember Valley
Decay Time: 24 Hours
Growable: Yes.

Pomegranites grow from dark-coloured trees in cave areas. The Pomegranite is as mysterious as it is ancient. A fruit that grows only in the dark caves beneath the earth, it grows without sunlight, without warmth. It should not be, and yet, it is.

Nectar

Moondew Nectar

Favourite Food: Flutter Slime
Location: Starlight Strand – Pink Side (Evening/Night, From 5 PM)
Growable: No. x1 Harvest

Moondew Nectar is a food type which can be found exclusively in Starlight Strand. It is significantly hard to farm with you only being able to harvest 1-2 per spot. It cannot be grown in The Conservatory.

Find the Moondew Nectar on the top of trees and on the sides of cliffs. Lots of it can be located around the Flutter Gordo on the pink side of the Starlight Strand.

Nectar spoils fairly quickly, so plan your farming runs accordingly!
