Animal Crossing: New Horizons – All The New Shops

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update is only a few days away! With all the new features and new villagers coming there’s a lot to look forward to! One that we’re excited about is the new shops that are going to be open on Harv’s Island.

Originally during the week sales animals such as Sahara, Kicks and Leif can be found selling items on your island. Their appearances are random and it can be quite the game of chance waiting for them to show up on the day. With the new update, they’ll have a permanent spot at the plaza on Harv’s Island for you to visit anytime!

Along with our old favourites, there are also a couple of new faces coming to the plaza. Such as Katrina and Harriet. Along with some old favourites – Reese and Cyrus. For everything we know about all the shops coming to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update check it all out here.

Harv’s Island Plaza

Harv has a great idea to increase visitors to his island, he’s going to furnish up a plaza where people can sell their wares! Unfortunately, Harv is only an “ideas man” and is a bit short on bells. So before you get to visit any shops you’re going to have to donate some bells first.

Each individual shop requires a certain amount of bells to build and unlock. Speak to one of the Lloids around the plaza, to read a description of the type of vendor looking to move into that spot. Then after the shops are funded, the shopkeepers will move in and begin offering their services!

There are a total of 8 confirmed shops coming to the Harv’s Island Plaza.

Katrina – The Fortune Shop

Katrina is a returning favourite of the Animal Crossing series. She originally plays a dark blue Panther that will read your fortune. And it looks like she’s coming back to reprise her role in New Horizons.

At the fortune-telling shop, you can give Katrina 100 bells to read your luck for the day. Giving you such gems as Bad luck is just luck that is bad. Excellent use of bells.

What was really important however in previous games, was that your character could become cursed! Forcing you to trip over your feet every time you walked. For a hefty sum, however, she’d be able to cleanse your spirit for a mere 10,000 bells. Bargain.

We don’t really know whether the fortune system will remain the same in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. But if they do – these are the fortunes that Katrina will give and how they’ll affect you.

  • Popular/Fortune upon love: Villagers of the opposite gender will take a liking to the player.
  • Support/Fortune upon friendship: Villagers of the same gender will be supportive.
  • Unpopular/Disaster upon love: Villagers will avoid the player.
  • Lucky Finances/Fortune upon wealth: The player will earn and find more bells than normal.
  • Lucky Materials/Fortune upon items: It will become easier to acquire rare items.
  • Unlucky/Disaster upon health: The player will fall down and trip a lot.

Harriet – Shampoodle Barber Shop

Harriet is another returning fan favourite who appears to be running an open-air barber on Harv’s Island. In previous games, she is a pink poodle who runs the Shampoodle barbershop. imo Shampoodle is an amazing name.

At her shop, she changes your hairstyle depending on the answers to a series of questions. It costs 3,000 Bells per style. In New Horizons changing up our own style is easy (and free) with the mirror. But the reason to visit Harriet would be for her exclusive hairstyles only available at her shop.

Once you get a haircut from her though you’ll be able to keep it and change it whenever you want in the mirror.

Reese & Cyrus – Re-Tail Furniture Shop

You may remember Reese & Cyrus from the wedding event they have in the Summer. But when they’re not planning for their overly extravagant photoshoots they run a furniture shop. Unlike in previous games where they were able to build you furniture they now just do specialised customisation of furniture.

According to the Direct video, it looks like you can customise items that you’d typically buy as opposed to making at the DIY workbench. Items such as the lighthouse that was colour/pattern locked to each individual’s island can now be customised with Reese & Cyrus. We also see in the video the Grand Piano and Soft-Serve Lamp are available for customisation.

Tortimer – Storage Access Kiosk

Ex-Mayor Tortimer has long since retired as Mayor of the previous Animal Crossing towns. It seems that part of his retirement plan is to come to Harv’s Island and open up a storage access kiosk.

On Harv’s island, Tortimer will let players access their storage to deposit or withdraw items without having to leave the island. I can imagine this would solve the issue of boating up and down with Savannah‘s carpet in tow once your pockets are full. As well as easily customising everything that Reese & Cyrus have to offer.

It’s currently unknown if Tortimer will serve any other purpose or whether he charges a fee for storage access.

Saharah – Rare Floor, Rug & Wallpaper Shop

Instead of carrying all those impossibly heavy rugs and flooring on her back, now Saharah can set up a permanent shop at Harv’s Island Plaza.

Originally in New Horizons, Saharah sells rugs of three different sizes at three different prices, as well as Mysterious Wallpaper and Flooring for 3,000 bells each. Saharah will give you Saharah Tickets for each rug you buy. Which can be exchanged for additional wallpaper and flooring.

It isn’t confirmed if the ticket system will still be in place for her as a vendor on Harv’s Island.

Leif – Gardening Store

Another of our travelling sales animals will be getting a permanent shop at Harv’s Island Plaza. This is important as new plants and crops are being added to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update. Making easy access to our favourite Sloth villager very important.

From the New Horizons 1.2 update, Leif sells bushes/shrubs, flowers and pumpkin starters that are not normally sold at Nook’s Cranny. As well as someone who will give you good bells for your weeds. In the 2.0 update, we’re getting more crops to farm such as tomatoes, wheat, sugar cane and potatoes. I foresee this becoming an important feature for Turkey Day.

Additionally during Animal Crossing Direct, a number of new plants have been spotted are coming to the 2.0 update. Including some large cactuses or cacti if you’re fancy. As well as some cool looking Topiaries, Baobab trees, Japanese pine and more! There even appears to be new weeds that glow in the dark?

Leaked but unconfirmed is also a new fertilizer option that is probably going to be used in farming.

Kicks – Rare Shoe Shop

I’d love for a Skunk villager like Kicks to be able to be invited to live on the island! But I guess we’re just going to have to live with him as the rare shoe vendor. He doesn’t just sell shoes however but also socks and bags that you won’t be able to find at the Able Sisters.

Redd – Jolly Redd’s Art Shop

Redd, the shady art dealer, maybe attempting to give his wares an air of legitimacy by setting up a permanent shop on Harv’s Island. He’ll still be selling paintings and statues both real and fake. But I guess it won’t be called a Treasure Trawler anymore?

I’m quite excited about this update since it’s been taking me forever to get all the pieces for the art museum. As well as a couple of statues and paintings that I want for my island. Honestly, one visit every 2 weeks certainly takes a lot of patience. So I’m very happy about this!

Some eagle-eyed YouTubers have also suggested that Redd will be running raffles on the island. Similar to what he does at the Fireworks Show. It’s not confirmed however so don’t @ me. But next to his store certainly looks like a raffle bin to me.

No More Shops After This!

@mayormori

So there we have it all the shops that are coming to Harv’s Island Plaza! @mayormori has also helpfully mapped all the stores up here for you to see.

There’s a total of 8 shops and it looks unlikely that there’ll be space for anymore. Coupled with Nintendo confirming that there will be no more major updates for Animal Crossing: New Horizons I wouldn’t expect any more shops to appear.

I’m not sure whether these animals will still be visiting your island after you unlock their permanent shop. I’m not sure why they would? But at least we still have Gulliver, Gullivarrr, Wisp and Celeste to still lookout for on our island!

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update is happening on the 5th of November. In the meantime be sure to check out all the features that are coming as well as the new villagers that you can invite to your island! As well as all our other Animal Crossing: New Horizons guides.
