Resident Evil has been on a viral rampage recently given the massive success of their remasters and of course Resident Evil: Village. Which comes complete with memes of Tall Vampire Lady and Winter Hands. On the back of all this good publicity comes Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, an animated series coming to Netflix on July 8th.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is produced and supervised by Capcom’s Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who is responsible for bringing numerous titles in the Resident Evil series into existence. Namely the three undying video-game classics: Resident Evil (original and remake), Resident Evil 2 (original) and Resident Evil 4. Kobayashi also produced all three Resident Evil animated films: Degeneration, Damnation, and Vendetta.
Updated: This page has been updated with more information from the previous version on May 20th. Happy hunting.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness – Release Date
We’re getting a summer of zombies because Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness launches on the 8th of July on Netflix! This comes close after the release of Resident Evil: Village in May. As well as on the heels of the new live-action Resident Evil movie coming in September.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City, the movie will reboot the entire film franchise. And has been confirmed to open in cinemas on 3 September 2021. It’s worth noting however that the film is not related to the Infinite Darkness Netflix series.
Introducing The Characters
Three Resident Evil video game characters have been confirmed so far for Infinite Darkness: Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and President Graham. Leon and Claire were introduced to the franchise in the original 1998 Resident Evil 2 game and returned as the stars of its 2019 remake.
Additionally, five other characters that don’t appear to have a game connection are part of the cast. These include Jason, a war hero who survived a prior zombie incident. Patrick, a rookie agent who admires Jason, Shen Mai, a government tech expert, Wilson, Graham’s ambitious Secretary of Defense and Ryan, Graham’s closest adviser.
Leon Scott Kennedy

Our main man and the hero of the Resident Evil series – Leon S. Kennedy. He needs no introduction to fans of the video game series but it’s here for everyone new to the series. Leon Kennedy is one of Resident Evil’s major recurring protagonists.
His cool, calm-headed personality and strong sense of justice have made him one of the most popular characters in the series. Across the timeline of the series, he has survived numerous close calls, giving him much depth. For fans of the series who have followed him across each title, it feels like Leon has grown with them.
Claire Redfield

Claire Redfield debuted in the same game as Leon in Resident Evil 2. She’s the sister of Chris Redfield another main protagonist of the Resident Evil series. Claire was just a college student when she first encounters zombies in Raccoon City. She grows up to become an activist and a member of Terra Save, a non-governmental organization that aids victims of bioterrorism and chemical attacks. This is where we find her in Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.
In the newly-released stills, Claire wears a familiar red jacket while facing another dire situation as she appears to have been captured by someone. Another new look for Claire features her wearing a red tank top and red glasses in a room while she investigates the Penamstan incident, staring at a computer screen with a grave expression. She will play a large role in uncovering the truth in this series.
Shen Mei

Shen Mei is voiced by Jona Xiao, and she’s a federal agent who’s particularly skilled with computers and hacking. After the cyberattack on the White House, the team must travel to the Institute of Biological Sciences in Shanghai. Shen Mei travels along fellow agents Leon Kennedy and Jason to find the cause of the incident. She’s a reliable and seasoned agent.
Jason

Jason is the former captain of the U.S. Army special forces team Mad Dogs, after a traumatic event happened on the war torn country Penamstan. He then becomes a federal agent serving alongside Leon Kennedy under President Graham.
Ray Chase voices the original character Jason, who’s described as a war hero whose reputation on the battlefield belies a cool-headed nature. He formerly served in the “Mad Dogs” special forces team, where he became known as the “Hero of Penamstan” due to winning several key battles there.
Patrick
Though there have been characters in the games named Patrick, the character in the animated series seems to be unrelated to any of them. He’s a rookie intelligence agent with little experience and almost completely in over his head. Despite his own lack of experience, he questions Leon’s achievements and instead deifies Jason. Given his name and his appearance, he’s likely based on actor Patrick Dempsey, though he’s voiced by Billy Kametz.
President Graham

Graham is an American politician who served as President of the United States from 2001 to 2009. Graham’s term saw the emergence and escalation of the War on Terror. In the events of Resident Evil 4 his daughter Ashley gets captured and is subsequently saved by Leon.
Joe J. Thomas voices Graham, the President of the United States. Graham has a unique history with Leon. His role in the series will likely involve the aforementioned White House hacking event and its relation to the wider plot of the show.
Wilson & Ryan

Wilson, voiced by Doug Stone, is an unscrupulous politician working as the Secretary of Defense in Graham’s cabinet. He is ruthless in his endeavors and will do anything in his power to attain what he wants. No matter the cost.
Feuding many times with Wilson is President Graham’s adviser Ryan. He’s much more level-headed, leading to scuffles with the sometimes cutthroat Secretary of Defense. Ryan is voiced Brad Venable.
The Plot
The series starts in the year 2000 in the fictional country of Penamstan where a civil war is brewing. The U.S Army Mad Dogs is sent in to assist only to find an army of undead waiting for them. Cut to the year 2006 and this is where Infinite Darkness really begins.
America is still reeling from what happened in Racoon City in 1998 and there is a concerted effort by the government to try to maintain control and show strength. One day though – 2006 a hacking incident occurs at the White House. Who but Leon S. Kennedy, now President Graham’s best buddy after he had saved the daughter Ashley in Resident Evil 4, as well as Jason “The Hero of Penamstan” (and one of the Mad Dogs earlier) is sent to investigate. What skills do these individuals have to investigate a hacking incident? Why was this hacking incident accompanied by a horde of mysterious zombies?
No idea but luckily these guys were sent in and not some cybersecurity nerds because they would be needed to take down a horde of mysterious zombies alongside a SWAT team!
So what is this mysterious file that was being hacked in the White House? Apparently, it’s related to some sort of biological lab in Shanghai. So Leon, Jason and the team decide to go investigate by boarding a cutting-edge submarine. They are then attacked by a swarm of rat-like Bio Organic Weapons (B.O.W) which push them into a life or death situation.
