10 Ridiculously Charming Games At LudoNarraCon 2021

Beacon Pines by Hiding Spot

Beacon Pines is a town within a book. You play as both the reader of the book and its main character, Luka VanHorn. A charming (but rambunctious) deer boy living with his grandmother in a small farm town. You’ll hang with your other cute animal buddies. Go snoop on secret things in the woods. Make trouble for your friend’s sister. Get killed with a knife by strange people in hazmat suits.

We follow a delightful coming of age story with all the trials and tribulations a young deer boy might face and then some. Try to avoid dying though because this farm town has some ugly secrets and you just might stumble across them if you aren’t careful. In this world within a book, words can change your fate. So be careful what words you choose.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale

Chicory: A Colorful Tale is a top-down adventure game in a colouring book world where you wield a magic paintbrush to restore colour to the world! The Brush is a one-of-a-kind artefact that can colour the world. Naturally, it needs a wielder, a master artist responsible for all colors and for passing the brush down. The current wielder, Chicory, is immensely talented and beloved by all… until all the color in the land vanishes, and her with it! I guess that leaves it up to you, her number one fan, to take up the brush and fill in for her.

In the game, you explore freely from screen to screen and use your magic brush to draw on anything and colour the world as you see fit. Use your painting powers to explore new places, solve puzzles, help your friends, and change the world! But it’s not all fun and games. A dark forest is growing at the edges of the realm, sapping colour from the land and causing all kinds of problems for the populace of the Picnic Province. As the new wielder, you’re unfortunately responsible to handle that too. You’ll have to venture into dark places and confront what lies within.

Cozy Grove by Spy Fox

Fans of Animal Crossing are going to want to get in on Cozy Grove. A life-sim game about camping on a haunted, ever-changing island. As a Spirit Scout, you’ll wander the island’s forest each day, finding new hidden secrets and helping soothe the local ghosts. With a little time and a lot of crafting, you’ll bring colour and joy back to Cozy Grove.

The goal of Cozy Grove is to do Spirit Scout things — like helping the island’s ghost mail-bear find lost mail — to bring life back to the colorless island. Ghost bears can give you spirit wood after helping them. Which you in turn feed to a sentient campfire called Flamey whose flames illuminate the world. It’s a game full of side quests, memorable characters, crafting and foraging.
