Genshin Impact – Hu Tao Character Guide

Genshin Impact is releasing characters faster than I can farm for materials! Next on the roster is the 5-star Pyro Hu Tao, a spooky little gal that’s got the corner on the cute-creepy market.

Hu Tao is the overseer and 77th director of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor in Liyue. Known as the “Versemonger of the Darkest Alleys” Hu Tao can most likely be found in some of Liyue Harbor’s creepiest locations. Hanging out with her spirit pals and practising her polearm skills.

Hu Tao releases on Genshin Impact today with a brand new banner that runs from the 2nd of March to the 16th. Today we’re going to answer your biggest question – should you be spending your Primogems on her?

Hu Tao Character Banner

Hu Tao’s character banner – ‘Moment of Bloom’ brings us five-star Pyro Polearm user along with three other four-star characters. They are the Hydro Sword-wielder Xingqiu, Cyro Claymore-wielder Chongyun and Pyro Polearm-user Xiangling.

I’ll repeat here for those of you new to Genshin Impact‘s gacha system. You’ll have a 0.6% chance of getting a 5-star character. But after 90 attempts you’re guaranteed a 5-star character. And if you wish on that particular character’s banner it will increase their rate by 50%. Still not great odds, but better odds than a non-banner moment.

Hut Tao Skills & Attacks

| Weapon: Polearm | Role: DPS | Element: Pyro |

Normal/Charge Attack: Secret Spear of Wangsheng

Normal Attack: Performs up to 6 rapid strikes.

Charged Attack: Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to lunge forward, dealing damage to enemies along the way.

Elemental Skill: Guide to Afterlife

Hu Tao’s elemental skill drains a part of Hu Tao’s HP to increase her power and turn all of her attacks to Pyro. This is known as the Paramita Papilio State.

Dash attacks can inflict a butterfly mark on the opponents that will continuously deal pyro damage. This is known as the Blood Blossom Effect.

Elemental Burst: Spirit Soother

Elemental Burst is a one flame swipe that will inflict strong damage and pyro to enemies. You will also recover certain parts of your HP depending on how many enemies you hit with the burst.

Is Hu Tao Worth Trying To Get?

Hu Tao’s is a decent character but it’s unlikely she will be a game-changer for those that already have high-tiered DPS characters in their ranks. Unless you’re just planning to collect them all, then you could give Hu Tao a miss. But for those that are just starting out then, Hu Tao could be a solid/mediocre DPS lead for your party.

As far as base attacks go she has one of the lowest in Genshin Impact. But this is offset with the continuous use of her abilities. Her ‘Guide to Afterlife’ skill can consume a significant portion of Hu Tao’s HP in exchange for bolstering Hu Tao’s attack and providing Pyro damage with every strike. This boost makes Hu Tao formidable for a brief amount of time. Add on to it with the Crimson Witch of Flames to make this character really blaze.

But in conclusion, there’s nothing remarkable on this Banner. It’s better to save your Primogems for something better. Maybe, Rosario, that’s been rumoured to be coming out sometime in the middle of the month?
