Knockout City

Release Date: May 21st 2021

Velan Studios, the studio behind the mixed-reality racer Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, has revealed its next title: Knockout City. A team-based online dodgeball game.

Knockout City’s take on dodgeball is similar to what you probably played in gym class. You and your team are trying to hit your opponents with balls while simultaneously avoiding and catching the balls thrown at you. In addition to straight-on throws, you can curve your shots, lob balls over obstacles, and even fake throws to try to catch your opponent off-balance.

But that’s where the similarities end because Knockout City is full of wildly inappropriate for kids special powers that are pretty dangerous for kids. There are balls that can turn into a bomb and blow up, you can even be the ball and get launched for special power-up attacks. Let’s say this ain’t your average dodgeball game.

Legend of Mana HD Remaster

Release Date: June 24th 2021

A remaster of one my personal favourite JRPGs of all time Legend of Mana is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC. Released way back in 1999 it’s the latest of the Mana series to get rebooted. With Trials of Mana and the Collection of Mana getting reboots in recent years.

Legend of Mana is set in the events after the burning down of the Mana Tree. The giver of mana and life for the world, causing a war to erupt between faeries, human, and others fighting to obtain the scarce mana that was left. When the war concluded, the drained Mana Tree slept and the many lands of the world were stored in ancient artefacts. It’s your job to restore the world, and its mana, to its former self. It’s pure wonderful, unadulterated classic fantasy RPG and I can’t wait for its return!

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

Release Date: July 16th 2021

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword came out 10 years ago on the Nintendo Wii. For those of you that have never played it or haven’t even held a Wii before then, you’ve missed out on one of the best Legend of Zelda games. But to be fair they’re all good. Skyward Sword takes place before Ocarina of Time and is the cause of the timeline split.

The Nintendo Wii was played using the console’s two detached motion controllers for gameplay. A little like the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers. But Nintendo is also introducing a new button-based control scheme for Skyward Sword that relies on tilting the thumbstick to control Link’s sword, allowing players using the Switch in handheld mode. So that’s good news for us Lite users.

As part of the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword release on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo its releasing special edition Joy-Con controllers themed after the Hylian Shield and Master Sword.
