Genshin Impact – Best Team Build

Genshin Impact is the Breath of the Wild RPG by developer miYoHo. It came out yesterday for free on the PS4, PC, iOS and Android platforms. So what makes Genshin Impact different from the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? Pretty much everything. While the game does have a lot of the same gorgeous open-world mechanics its combat system is very different. Instead of Link’s long solo journey, you’ll be saving your world with a team.

If you’ve played mobile games like Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Fire Emblem Heroes, or even developer MiHoYo’s previous game Honkai Impact 3rd, then you’ll know what a Gacha system is. In Genshin Impact you’ll be summoning or pulling heroes at random with the Gacha system. There are 18 different heroes so far and each has their own movesets, powers and elements. So it seems like team building will be luck of the draw for a while. But once you get a couple it’ll be important to balance elemental reactions, roles and energy generation. Here’s 5 of the best team builds for you to try.

Team Composition

The Carry – Your main DPS. Carry units deal the most consistent damage and excel at being out on the field at any given moment. They are characters that deal high DPS numbers with either high scaling normal attacks, low elemental skills and bursts cooldowns, or both. Carries are the team’s primary source of damage.

The Burst – These units as the name suggests are there to deal as damage in a short amount of time. Or a burst as its called. Typically the same element as the main DPS to share res down effects and help generate more energy. They typically lack long-term reliable DPS and are more utilized for their hard-hitting abilities. Use them and swap them out of the field when their kit is on cooldown.

The Enabler – Units who are there to help boost Team DPS by creating reactions. Reactions are things such as Overload or Electro-charged are the best for DPS. While weak by themselves, they consistently apply elements statues to set up Carry and Burst characters for elemental reactions.

The Support – Units for healing, reducing resistance, gathering enemies, buffing team.

Pyro Team Build

Diluc [Carry] – Pyro

Diluc is own of the wealthiest gentlemen in Mondstadt. He owns the Dawn Winery by day but by night he protects it as the ‘Darknight Hero’.

This build can work without any constellations, but really shines when you have all 6. When you do Diluc becomes an unstoppable Pyro DMG dealing machine, weaving 2 normal attacks in between every Searing Onslaught hit. Using a fully powered-up The Bell as his weapon could allow him to chain this combo indefinitely.

Weapons

The Bell – After dealing damage to an enemy with an Elemental Skill, the skill has a 40/50/60/70/80% chance to end its own CD. Can only occur once every 30/26.5/22/18.5/14s.

or

Wolf’s GravestoneIncreases Base ATK by 20/25/30/35/40%. On hit, attacks against enemies with less than 30% HP increase all party members’ Base ATK by 40/50/60/70/80% for 12s. Can only occur once every 30s.

Artifact Sets

Crimson Witch of Flames – Pyro DMG Bonus +15%. Increases Overloaded and Burning DMG by 40%. Increases Vaporize and Melt DMG by 15%. Using an Elemental Skill increases 2-Piece Set effects by 50% for 10s. Max 3 stacks.

Xiangling [Burst] – Pyro

The Head Chef at the Wanmin Restaurant, Xiangling is extremely passionate about cooking and excels at her signature hot and spicy dishes. Though still young, Xiangling is a true master of the culinary arts with all the skills of a kitchen veteran.

This build empowers Xiangling’s Pyro DMG on her skills. You could also use a full Noblesse Oblige set if you find yourself using her Elemental Burst very often. If you choose to use her Gladitor’s Finale you’ll be relying more on increasing the damage of her Normal Attack.

Weapons

Kunwu’s Iris Rift – Increases Normal Attack SPD by 10/12/14/16/18%. Increases DMG against enemies affected by any element by 24/30/36/42/48%.

or

Dragon’s Bane – Increases DMG against enemies affected by Hydro or Pyro by 20/24/28/32/36%.

Artifact Sets

Noblesse Oblige – Elemental Burst DMG +20%. Using an Elemental Burst increase all party members’ ATK by 20% for 12s. This effect cannot stack.

or

Gladiator’s Finale – ATK +18%. If the wielder of this artefact set uses a Sword, Claymore or Polearm it increases their Normal Attack DMG by 35%.

or

Crimson Witch of Flames – Pyro DMG Bonus +15%. Increases Overloaded and Burning DMG by 40%. Increases Vaporize and Melt DMG by 15%. Using an Elemental Skill increases 2-Piece Set effects by 50% for 10s. Max 3 stacks.

Fischl [Enabler] – Electro

A mysterious girl who calls herself “Prinzessin der Verurteilung” and travels with a night raven named Oz. Currently serves as an investigator in the Adventurers’ Guild.

This build empowers Fischl’s Electro DMG on her skills. You could also use a full Noblesse Oblige set if you find yourself using her Elemental Burst very often.

Weapons

The Stringless – Increases Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG by 24/30/36/42/48%.

Artifact Sets

Gambler – Elemental Skill DMG increased by 20%

or

Thundering Fury – Electro DMG Bonus +15%

Traveler [Support] – Geo

At the beginning of the game, both genders are twin siblings from another world, travelling throughout the universe. Until an Unknown God ambushed, captured one of them, and sealed their ways to travel, leaving them stranded on Teyvat.

This build empowers the Traveler’s Geo damage from his abilities. While Geo reactions are not great, his damage is good and the party-wide buff from his Constellation level 1 is also great.

Weapons

Iron Sting – Dealing Elemental DMG increases all DMG by 8/10/12/14/16% for 6s. Max 2 stacks. Can only occur once every 1s.

Artifact Sets

Noblesse Oblige – Elemental Burst DMG +20%. Using an Elemental Burst increase all party members’ ATK by 20% for 12s. This effect cannot stack.

A really great game. Love the fact of it being F2P. Huge world a lot of stuff to do. Basically one of the best MMO I ever played.

    This isn’t actually an MMORPG.

Yeah, actually that’s an inaccurate statement. I was thinking online RPG? Co-Op RPG? I’ve just left it as RPG. Thanks for calling it out.

Some of this looks okay. You kind of neglected a lot of the information created by those of us who tested beta for months. Most notably that there are 4 roles: carry, enabler, burst, and support. For example, calling Fischl a support of suggesting Razor is a stronger carry than her is wrong. She would be considered primary role: carry and secondary role: enabler.

Hey, thanks for writing in yeah you’re right about the roles. And of course thanks to all the beta testers for making the game what it is! I wanted to simplify all the information so that it would be easier for newbies to digest. But you’re right I should split up the roles so it’s easier to understand. Fischl really shouldn’t be called support it was more like support DPS? But didn’t come off that way. I’ve updated the article to reflect some new language.

The game is amazing, there is nothing I don’t like about it other than the wall glitches. I hope they can make an offline version, too for people with rough internet.

Would the anemo traveler work in place of the geo traveler, or is there a different support than can be used?

    • Kaylee Kuah October 5, 2020 — Post author

Hi I just answered this question in the comment above. The Geo reactions produce ‘Crystallize’ which drops and elemental shield. While Anemo causes Swirl damage. Swirl is more Burst than Support. If you’re looking for other support characters you can take a look at Venti or characters with good support talents like Barbara.

Just wondering for the pyro team why you use travellers geo class instead of anemo class? I just want to know the benefits.

    • Kaylee Kuah October 5, 2020 — Post author

Geo is good if you want the support because when an enemy is hit with GEO status and then you hit it with ice, wind, water or fire it causes ‘Crystallize’. This drops an elemental shield that absorbs damage, pretty useful in a fight. While Anemo causes Swirl which deals extra elemental and AoE damage. That would be more in the Burst than Support category. Both are good but if you’re building a team I believe Geo is better.
