Next, up on our Final Fantasy VII Remake, character build guide list is the one-armed gunner himself, Barret Wallace. Everything about Barret just screams tank and I have to say that I’m guilty of not really using him when I first played the first Final Fantasy VII. This time around he’s still kind of a bruiser but has a magic build available for some reason. That should be interesting. Check out all his best weapon builds. And if you’re looking for the other character guides we have Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart and Aerith Gainsborough here.

Gatling Gun
Location: Starting weapon
Proficiency: Focused Shot – Consume all ATB charges to unleash a concentrated burst of energy. Significantly increases stagger
Strengths: Barret’s starting weapon is his most balanced option, sporting a a wide range of basic upgrades. Barret is a naturally tanky character, but the Gatling Gun lets him branch out in a number of directions depending on his equipped materia.
Recommended Materia:
• Fire, Ice, Lightning
• HP Up
• Steadfast Block
Light Machine Gun
Location: Chapter 6 – To The Cargo Platform – Acquired automatically while completing the story
Proficiency: Take damage intended for other party members
Strengths: The Light Machine Gun allows Barret to adopt a more supporting role thanks to a high number of magic upgrades. However, it doesn’t forsake physical attack completely, making it a reasonably balanced weapon choice. It’s a great fit if you want Barret to be an all-round fighter.
Recommended Materia:
• Fire, Ice, Lightning
• Heal, Revive, Barrier
• HP Up, MP Up
Big Bertha
Location: Chapter 13 – Checking On Friends – Sold at the Weapon Store in the Sector 6 Slums (Evergreen Park). Costs 2,500 gil
Proficiency: Maximum Fury – Consume all ATB carges to fire a long stream of bullets at an enemy
Strengths: Big Bertha is all about having as much HP as possible. Barret already has the highest natural HP in the game, and this weapon grants him multiple different stat boosts if he’s able to maintain most of his health in battle. If you want Barret to be the party’s primary tank while also dishing out big damage, this is the gun for you.
Recommended Materia:
• Chakra, HP Up
• Steadfast Block

Steel Pincers
Location: Ch. 14 – Sold at the Moogle Emporium in the Sector 5 Slums (Children’s Secret Hideout). Costs 7 Moogle Medals.
Proficiency: Charging Uppercut – Rush toward an enemy and launch them into the air with a furious blow. Increases charge.
Strengths: Steel Pincers turn Barret into a melee attacker and offensive magic-user? Weird flex but okay. If you want Barret to be the party’s primary mage, for some reason this weapon lets Barret deal big damage, both physically and magically.
Recommended Materia:
• Fire, Ice, Lightning
• Heal
• HP Absorption
• MP Up, Magic Up
Wrecking Ball
Location: Ch. 14 – Subterranean Menace – Complete the side-quest found in the Sector 6 Slums (Evergreen Park)
Proficiency: Smackdown – Strike the ground and send nearby enemies flying
Strengths: Like the Steel Pincers, the Wrecking Ball turns Barret into a melee attack character without the magic boosts. The weapon itself is all about dealing heavy physical damage thanks to a large number of attack boosting upgrades. If you want Barret to be your party’s big damage dealer, always up close and personal with the enemy, then the Wrecking Ball is a great choice.
Recommended Materia:
• Chakra
• HP Up
• ATB Stagger
• Steadfast Block
EKG Cannon
Location: Ch. 16 – A Helping Hand – Sold by Hart in Sector 0 – Shinra Power Company (62F Upper Level – Corporate Archives). Find him in the Mayor’s Office. It costs 10,000 gil
Proficiency: Point Blank – Consume all ATB charges to deliver a close-range attack and send enemies flying
Strengths: The EKG Cannon is Barret’s best option if you want him to make the most of magic while also fighting from at range with a gun arm. On top of hefty magical upgrades, it’s got a number of critical hit enhancements, making it a good offensive option. This isn’t Barret’s tankiest weapon, but with its high magic, you can certainly have him handle healing when necessary.
Recommended Materia:
• Fire, Ice, Lightning
• Healing
• HP Absorption
• MP Up, Luck Up
