Ellie – Maisie Williams
I’m caving to popular opinion here because I did love Arya Stark at the beginning of the Game of Thrones series. The later years… not so much. Arya goes through a lot in her young life just like Ellie and she has a kind of dark violent presence that you can’t get from most kid actors. Coupled with her ability to express vulnerability and question her character’s identity it seems like a good fit for the role. I personally think she’s a little bit old to play the role but it depends on when they decide to shoot the TV series. Maisie Williams herself has expressed her enthusiasm to play Ellie in The Last of Us.
Marlene – Ruth Negga
Marlene’s not the biggest character in The Last of Us but she is important to the story. The leader of the Fireflies, she oversees the tough decisions with a subdued attitude. The time during the post-apocalypse is hard and even though her heart may tell her otherwise, she always leads with her head. Ruth Negga, who’s stealing every scene she’s in on TV’s Preacher, would be the perfect fit. It doesn’t hurt that she has some experience in a post-apocalypse following her small role in World War Z.
Marlene – Gugu Mbatha-Raw
If HBO is looking for Marlene to take on a bigger role in The Last of Us we’d love to see the gorgeous Gugu Mbatha-Raw take on the radical and complex role of Marlene. If you’ve watched her in Beyond the Lights or Motherless Brooklyn, she has this undeniable stage presence that’s both understated and captivating. Exactly what Marlene would be should she take on a larger role in The Last of Us. She can also do an American accent but damn her British one is fine.
David – Adrien Brody
There’s something about David… what he does isn’t necessarily evil, how he takes care of Ellie and all. But there’s something off about him, he has strong cult leader energy. A subtle psychotic madness that someone like Adrien Brody would absolutely flourish in portraying. He’s a knife in a velvet glove, ready to comfort and kill. Brody hasn’t been so hot on the scene in recent years but there’s absolutely no denying that in the right role his presence on screen is magnanimous.
Robert – Jerome Flynn
Our first major antagonist in The Last of Us is arms dealer Robert. He’s one of those conmen that do well in the midst of suffering but isn’t one to play the hero or get his hands dirty if he can help it. Well, well, well, doesn’t that sound like our man Bronn to a tea. Jerome Flynn plays the dual-edged Westerosi Bronn in Game of Thrones. He’s just trying to do what’s best for himself, he won’t let something like morals or pride get in the way of that. Doesn’t that sound like a certain Robert we know?
