The hardest decision in any Pokémon game comes at the very beginning. Picking your starter Pokémon. This Pokémon will be your constant companion from the beginning, saving you from the inevitable onslaught of Pidgys or Caterpies. All the way until the final gym battle. Let’s face it you have a real heart of stone to not have your starter Pokémon in your final lineup. But before all of the medals and rivals, you have to make a decision. How do you decide? Follow your head and list out all their stats and final moves? Or follow your heart and look at how cute those widdle faces are. Or how cool their final evolutions will be. Let’s see what your Pokémon starter says about you.
Unlike previous games, Pokémon Sword and Shield gives you a really neutral ground in which to pick your starters. None is significantly better than the other beginning or end game, in terms of gyms etc. Each of the starters will remain as their pure type through to their third evolution. And the first three gyms are grass, water and fire, giving each of the starters equal opportunity to shine. In addition to this, the route before the first gym leader has a myriad of different types of Pokémon. So you’ll never be at an extreme disadvantage when you start your adventure. Just follow your heart and we’ll tell you what it means.
Scorbunny – Spontaneous, Fun, Enthusiastic

If you’ve picked Scorbunny you’re an enthusiastic trainer full of spontaneity, inspiration, intuition, and big passions! Fiery guys and gals are excitable and impulsive and love to light a fire under others. You won’t see Scorbunny players sitting around waiting for things to come. They’ve got to make it happen for themselves in the most creative way possible. The fast pounding heart of a Scorbunny belies a nature that is both lively and creative. Self-confident by nature, you won’t be running to the PokéCenter after every battle that’s for sure.
Just watch out you Scorbunnies as your firey nature can often burn those that can’t handle the heat. While you may be an inspiration to others when you get too hot others may start to back away. Slightly bossy, selfish even, some may perceive you as a little bossy and egoistic. It’s just the smoke that follows a fire but as long as you don’t burn out of control you’ll be the cheery blaze that everyone flocks to!
Sobble – Deep, Empathetic, Compassionate

Fluid, flowing and wavering. If Sobble is your starter of choice then you are a trainer that lets your emotions guide you. Just like Sobble you’re a deep person that’s intuitive and sensitive, feeling more intensely than other people. Water is all about compassion, empathy and understanding, which is why you’re drawn to this little lizard Pokémon that cries. These trainers base their decisions on senses rather than logic. You’re probably artistic and aesthetically inclined with a desire for beauty and for everyone to be happy as a result of that beauty. You thrive when helping others.
Don’t let your emotions get the best of you though Sobble trainer. If you don’t win your first gym or catch that rare Pokémon there’s no reason to brood or become melancholy. Like Sobble, their trainers are prone to mood swings that could become self-indulgent. Be calm like the sea, or strong like torrential rain but avoid being stagnant like still water. The world needs more of Sobble types!
Grookey – Grounded, Dependable, Practical

Grookey trainers like the beating of the drum are reliable and dependable folks. Guided by a sense of duty, responsibility and logic they can be counted on to be there when you need them. Like Grookey you have a soft spot for the world around you and you have solid moral standing. If you picked Grookey you may have already read ahead to see which of the starters was the most well-rounded. You prefer to know what’s on the road ahead instead of taking what you may deem as unnecessary risks. A trainer with this Chimp Pokémon is measured in their emotions and actions but they’ll get to the finish line in the end.
But just like the Chimp Pokémon, Grookey trainers may have a little monkey in them in that they have a taste for material things. Appreciating the finer things in life like a good meal or a new car, your love for things may soon overgrow to your capacity. So keep your feet on the ground and your eyes on the prize if you’re going to win.
