Next, to Nintendo, Microsoft Xbox E3 2019 press conference had some of the best news, trailers, and gameplay. From big titles like Halo Infinite, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Borderlands 3 and Gears 5. Not to mention Keanu Reeves making his Cyberpunk 2077 debut – all in all a solid showing for Microsoft.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Let’s start this article off hot with the latest Star Wars game by EA and Respawn Entertainment. Set after the events of Revenge of the Sith you play as Cal Kestis, a young force user and a budding Jedi. He’s survived the initial onslaught of the infamous Order 66, but now he’s on the run. Hunted by the Second Sister. Not the Seventh Sister from Clone Wars, but definitely another Imperial Inquisitor who lives to hunt Jedi. It’s a dark time to be a Jedi on the run with the Empire at the height of its power.
Unlike some of the other videogame announcements this E3, Respawn has 13 minutes of in-game footage set on the Wookie homeworld of Kashyyyk. We see some wall-running, platforming, force powers and combat. The demo takes place about three hours into the game, and it looks like Cal is already a quite powerful Jedi at that point.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is coming out on November 15th 2019, on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Blair Witch
Bloober the studio behind Layers of Fear is back with an upcoming survival horror game. If you haven’t watched any of the Blair Witch series before let me boil it down for you – it’s about scary footage on a shaky hand camera with potential ghost/occultist sightings.
The new original story of the Blair Witch game takes place two years after the student filmmakers took off into the Black Hills forest to make a documentary about the fabled Blair Witch. You play as an ex-policeman called Ellis who goes searching for a missing kid by the name of Peter Shannon. Traversing through the dark Black Hills forest with an era-appropriate camcorder and torch in hand, you set off to search for any trace of the boy.
Blair Witch is coming out on August 30th 2019, on the Xbox One and PC.
Cyberpunk 2077
A game that needs no introduction, Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the works since 2012 and finally this E3 we get a release date. The game was announced by the very sexy and suspiciously immortal Keanu Reeves who is starring in the game. Cyberpunk 2077 is based on Mike Pondsmith‘s tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020 and is being developed by CD Projekt Red the studio behind The Witcher series.
Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be a first-person RPG at heart but will focus on shooter mechanics also. Featuring Cyberware that will offer the player (and other characters) the ability to employ augmented abilities to perform some crazy moves like sending projectiles around corners. Allowing you complete customisation on how you want to play your character. And that’s a large part of Cyberpunk. You’ll be able to tackle missions, areas, situations, and enemies how you’d prefer. Sneak around the back and enter quietly or roll in guns blazing. Check out 48 minutes of gameplay below.
Cyberpunk 2077 is coming out on April 16th 2020, on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
The Outer Worlds
I last saw this game at The 2018 Game Awards and after seeing this trailer I’m more excited than ever. The Outer Worlds kinda got a bit shunted next to Keanu Reeves but I’d say it deserves just as much attention. It’s being developed by the RPG legends at Obsidian Entertainment and is set in a sci-fi world, not unlike that of Borderlands and Fallout.
Your story takes places in Halcyon, the furthest colony in the galaxy owned by corporations. But something goes amiss during transportation and you awake decades later to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the colony. Interesting. You’ll also encounter different factions around deep space who are vying for power. Every decision you make is left entirely up to you in true RPG form. Will you be a force for good? Or will you just kill everyone for no reason? Whoever you decide to become will determine the fate of everyone in the colony. So, you know, choose wisely. Or don’t.
The Outer Worlds is coming out on October 25th 2020, on the PC – Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store (Not on Steam).
