Netflix enters the E3 2019 arena with a panel called “Bringing Your Favorite Shows to Life: Developing Netflix Originals into Video Games”. The streaming service has already announced a game adaptation for Stranger Things and there looks to be more on the way.
Netflix has already been dipping their toes in with their interactive shows such as Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch and Bear Gryll’s You vs Wild. While this is a good start we’d be looking for more features for it to really be considered game-like. Right now it looks more like an Instagram poll.
Of course there’s the upcoming @Stranger_Things game but hmmmmm… there’s definitely more to come! pic.twitter.com/UFBUCAs7Qr

In the meantime at least we’ll be sure to hear more about Stranger Things at E3 2019. Stranger Things 3: The Game will be launching on July 4th the same time as the TV premiere. The game is going to be a companion to the show and as such if you watch the trailer there are scenes that mirror the show exactly.
It’s no surprise then that the game sticks to the show’s retro style with 16-bit art. In addition to following along with the plot, the game will allow players to explore Hawkins and, according to VentureBeat, uncover new mysteries. You’ll be able to play solo or in a two-player co-op on the Xbox One, PS4, Switch, PC, Mac and Mobile.
With Sony and EA electing to skip E3 this year, this at least is an interesting surprise. Netflix has already adapted gaming to TV with their Castlevania, Carmen Sandiego and Witcher spin-offs. So it makes sense they’ll go the other way around. I for one am looking forward to an Umbrella Academy game.
Stay tuned to Unpause for more updates from E3 2019!
