gamescom is one of the biggest European gaming trade fairs in the world and next year we’ll be getting our very own Asian edition in Singapore. The event has been held in Cologne, Germany since 2009 and it attracts over 370,000 attendees every year. gamescom asia will be held from the 15th to 18th of October in 2020 and will function as a showcase platform for local and international games. As well as a platform for game developers in Asia to reach a global market (and vice versa).
On May 29th a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between gamescom event organiser Koelnmesse and the Singapore Tourism Board to mark their new partnership for the upcoming event.
“This is a launch event that we are all looking forward to. The region has been hungry for a Tier One gaming event and we now have all the ingredients to successfully cater to this need. With strong partnerships with GameStart, the Singapore government, and the gaming ecosystem, we are expecting to attract over 30,000 enthusiasts and gaming industry professionals to the inaugural gamescom asia.”
– Mathias Kuepper, Managing Director of Koelnmesse Singapore

gamescom asia will be working along side a local video game convention event organiser of GameStart Asia. While we’re sad to see GameStart Asia end we’re looking forward to what gamescom asia is going to bring.
“GameStart will now be handing over the reins to gamescom asia, and (we) look forward to working closely with Koelnmesse Singapore to build on the current gaming community that GameStart has established over the years. We are extremely excited for what is to come and will be gearing up in full force as consultants for the event, bringing to the community and industry a bigger and more vibrant convention.”
– Elicia Lee, Founder of GameStart and Gaming Marketing Firm Eliphant
gamescom asia will consist of a two-day industry gaming conference and a three-day trade and public exhibition, including esports events, a showcase of emerging technologies in video games, as well as gaming workshops, meet-and-greet sessions and cosplay theatrics.

Southeast Asia is a gateway into the Asian market and it offers a wealth of business potential for the video game industry. It’s one of the fastest growing regions in the world and we’re pretty excited at what’s kind of exciting game news is going to be in our backyard. So far the venue, cost, lineup and all that jazz have yet to be confirmed but you can be sure that we’ll be reporting on it.
