Killer7, the cult action game from Goichi ‘Suda51’ Suda and Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, is being remastered and released for PC in 2018. The remaster was revealed during MomoCon, where Suda‘s studio, Grasshopper Manufacture, hosted a 20th-anniversary stream. The game was listed in our Unapuse list of Gamecube games we want to see on the Nintendo Switch, so it looks like we’re halfway there!
The cult classic game if you’ve never played it before is a semi on-rails shooter where you play as members of Killer7, an elite assassination squad comprised of seven unique assassins with their own abilities. Killer7 casts players as the titular assassin group as they try to take down the terrorist organization known as Heaven Smile. The game garnered controversy upon release with its frank depictions of sex and violence and was originally released for the Gamecube and PS2 in 2005. Check out the announcement trailer below.
“Dive into a dark world of underground assassins in a tale of revenge as Harman Smith, a man who manifests 7 deadly personalities into the real world, known as the killer7. Take control of this distinct murderers’ row as they hunt down the sinister Kun Lan, to stop his plan of world dominance, and end his organization of deadly suicide bombers known as ‘Heaven Smile.'”
Like other Suda 51 games, Killer7‘s story is a bit hard to explain but features his favourite motifs like assassins, baroque storytelling, and oddball mannerisms. So if you’re a fan of his later games, such as The Silver Case and No More Heroes you’ll find that Killer7 servers as a kind of blueprint for those later games.
killer7 on Steam will not feature any new content but is being made to be brought up to “modern standards.” According to the Steam page for the game, it is expected to launch this Fall. You can add Killer7 to your Steam Wishlist today right here.
