Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Launches Today!

The owls are in and today’s the day we can finally head back to Hogwarts with the release of the free to play mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery! Out now on iOS and Android. So let’s get started on our wizarding adventure!

Your role-playing adventure begins as an eager young budding witch or wizard attending Hogwarts for the first time. From there you’ll need to make all the good choices for own magical adventure! Make friends and enemies, attend classes, win the house cup and learn magic in this entire seven-year saga at Hogwarts!

There are all the familiar faces of the professors, as well as a couple of new original game characters that will help or hinder you in this Hogwarts Mystery. It is a free to play game however so don’t expect much deep gameplay mechanics. It’s more of a casual choose your own adventure kinda game that focuses on the story which turns up in little charming ways. Every conversation choice dictates your character as well as those around you. Although the game is not written by J.K. Rowling herself, the game has been lovingly honed to emulate the Hogwarts experience. There are a ton of mysteries and you can go about how you want to solve it!

Everything isn’t perfect though, this is a free-to-play release, which means there are plenty of in-app purchases that just so happen to range up to USD$99.99 per item. You can also expect multiple in-game currencies and wait times but don’t let that deter you, the game’s use of intuitive controls and gameplay balance still give it an acceptable level of polish to worth your time.

The game is being published under the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Portkey Games division, which handles mobile games and video games that are centred specifically around the J.K. Rowling‘s original Wizarding Works projects. This likely means that there will be a lot more games to come out featuring J.K. Rowling‘s original works and some of her more popular characters, both within and outside of the Harry Potter universe. Fantastic Beasts please!
