What We Want To See In The Next Star Wars Trailer

We’re hitting the final months of 2017, and with that comes some of the year’s biggest movies. That includes Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which picks up immediately after where The Force Awakens left off in 2015. Lucasfilm loves to keep details about the upcoming Star Wars movies close to the chest. So there’s still plenty of questions that need answering. Fortunately, it looks like we may be learning more concrete information about that next Star Wars installment through a full-length trailer.

Although no official premiere date has been announced yet, there are rumblings that the next Last Jedi trailer will drop in a few weeks, and given that The Force Awakens also debuted a big trailer in October, fans will want to keep their eyes and ears open. In the meantime, we’ve gathered together moments that should be shown in the next preview that will boost excitement for The Last Jedi even higher.

The Crait Battle

Star Wars The Last Jedi Teaser Trailer The Crait Battle

Star Wars fans got their first look at Crait in The Last Jedi teaser trailer. Where was saw Resistance skimmers kicking up red dust as they raced to meet the AT-M6s heading their way. The moment was reminiscent of the Hoth conflict in The Empire Strikes Back, as once again we have smaller vehicles being sent out to engage the slow-moving armored walkers on a desolate battlefield. However, while the snow speeders on Hoth used tow cables to bring down the AT-ATs, we don’t yet how these Resistance skimmers will stand a chance against AT-M6s, which are bigger and have more firepower than the AT-ATs. Ideally the next Last Jedi trailer will drop in a few more seconds of Crait footage so we’ll have a better idea of what this battle will look like.

Canto Bight

Star Wars The Last Jedi, Canto Bight

Of all the new planets being introduced in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Canto Bight is unquestionably the most glamorous. Rian Johnson included this casino planet to move away from the “griminess and dirt” common in many Star Wars worlds. While still making it feel like it belongs in this galactic space, similar to Coruscant in the Prequel Trilogy. We’ve gotten a few looks of Canto Bight already through official photos and The Last Jedi behind-the-scenes reel from D23. But this upcoming trailer is the perfect time to show off the glitzy environment and clue fans in on what Rose and Finn will be up to there. As a bonus, maybe we could also get a peek at Benicio del Toro‘s mysterious character, who is still only known as DJ.

The Knights Of Ren In Action

Ben Solo isn’t the only one who adopted a Ren moniker when he crossed over to the dark side. He is but one of the Knights of Ren who serve Supreme Leader Snoke. Though, given Kylo Ren‘s position within The First Order, it’s safe to say he’s the highest-profile member. We caught a glimpse of Kylo with the other knights in Rey’s Force vision during The Force Awakens, and one of the earlier Last Jedi rumors. Claimed that there was a battle being filmed involving Luke Skywalker and Rey on one side and seven black-clad, helmeted figures on the other side. It would seem that The Last Jedi will fully introduce some, if not all, of Kylo‘s fellow Knights, so let’s get a taste of how these formidable these other Renegades are.

Finn And Rose Undercover

When Finn is finished healing from the wounds he sustained from Kylo Ren. The Resistance won’t waste any time assigning him a mission. While Lucasfilm hasn’t shed any light on what Finn‘s goal is, the former stormtrooper will be paired with mechanic Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran). Together the two of them will travel to Canto Bight, and from there, they’ll go undercover in the First Order. Where evidently some people still haven’t learned about Finn‘s defection. According to one report, their ultimate goal is to destroy one of the First Order’s Super Star Destroyers. And while that remains to be confirmed, the least this new trailer could do is show Finn and Rose in their First Order officer uniforms, just like what was shown at the Disney investors conference earlier this year.

Captain Phasma Fighting

Despite being hyped up as one of The Force Awakens‘ exciting new characters, Captain Phasma barely had a presence in the 2015 Star Wars movie. She only had a few minutes of screen time where she wasn’t even seen firing her blaster. Thankfully it’s been promised several times over that the chrome-armored stormtrooper will have a bigger role in The Last Jedi. The Last Jedi trailer should show Phasma on the battlefield demonstrating why she’s one of The First Order‘s chief officers, whether it’s by gunning Resistance scum from afar or killing them up close with her spear. (Side note: for those who want to learn about Phasma’s origins before seeing The Last Jedi, I recommend reading the Phasma novel by Deliah S. Dawson).

Leia Organa And Amilyn Holdo Working Together

Star Wars The Last Jedi, Episode VIII, Laura Dern, Amilyn Holdo

While not the most exciting thing The Last Jedi trailer could show. It would be welcome if we could see General Leia Organa working alongside one of her fellow Resistance leaders, Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo. While she is an ally, it’s been reported that Holdo has a more “centrist” view with how the galaxy should be governed. To the point that her relationship with Poe Dameron has been described as antagonistic because she disagrees with how The Resistance is fighting back against the First Order. There’s obviously not enough time for one trailer to clue fans in on all these elements. But we could at least see Leia and Holdo together, with the latter saying something that passes along the idea that there’s division within The Resistance.

Luke Skywalker With A Lightsaber

Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill, Lightsaber, Star Wars The Last Jedi

Luke Skywalker only had a couple years of Jedi training when he defeated Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi. So one can only imagine how powerful he’s become in the three decades since the Empire‘s collapse. Lucasfilm and Mark Hamill are still keeping tight-lipped about Luke‘s role in The Last Jedi. Besides mentoring Rey in the ways of the Force, but if that battle with the Knights of Ren mentioned earlier is indeed show, then we’ll see what Luke has become capable of as a full-fledged Jedi Master. Who knows, maybe he’ll even clash with Snoke in the movie.

In any case, the best way this new Last Jedi trailer could end if we see the older Luke ignite his lightsaber. Be it with his old one Rey brought back to him or a new one that he constructed between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. With an unmistakable air that he’s significantly more powerful than the last time we saw him.
