The Lenovo Y710 Is A Portable Gaming Desktop

Lenovo’s IdeaCentre Y710 is a compact powerhouse with the all new GeForce GTX 1070

One of the best-kept secrets in PC gaming continues to be Lenovo‘s line of gaming laptops and desktops. For years, the company, best known for ThinkPad and Yoga laptops, has put out a series of decent, if not flashy, game-ready laptops and desktops at very reasonable prices.

The latest is a portable desktop, which packs a ton of power with the latest GPUs and Nvidia‘s GeForce 1000 series cards. All in a small 15.48” x 9.38” x 12.38 chassis with a big carrying handle for easy transport to your man cave.

Unlike some of the very squared-off gaming cubes we’ve seen before, this guy isn’t trying to hide discreetly behind your desk. It’s got the red lights and sharp angles of the bigger Lenovo gaming desktops, and since it runs current-gen desktop-level graphics, it should be able to handle VR headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, without a hitch.

The Specs

A sixth genetration Intel Core i7-6700 3.4GHz with 8MB cache. With 32GB of DDR4 memory as well as the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GDDR5 8GB graphic card under the hood.

Storage duties are handled by up to a 256GB SSD (which will have Windows 10 Home preinstalled). Paired with a 2TB HDD to handle all of your data and media storage. You’ll also find Killer DoubleShot Pro (GbE/Wi-Fi) which allows the machine to use both Ethernet and WiFi to get the best speed and stability.

There’s one USB 2.0 port in the rear, one USB 3.0 port in the rear and 2 USB 3.0 ports in the front.

The Y710 also comes in with a built-in receiver that supports a wireless Xbox One game controller.  This sounds very promising as you can sync a gamepad without having to have the giant Xbox wireless stick that makes using a game controller on a PC such a hassle.

Needless to say, you won’t be starved for power. So crank it up to 4K Ultra. If you want to check out the unit Lenovo Malaysia is having a roadshow on the 2nd Floor of the Old Wing in One Utama.

The Y710 Cube is currently priced at RM6,099 and comes with a three-year on-site warranty.
