Logan is Hugh Jackman’s last time donning the claws and sideburns of the Wolverine. In the last 17 years, he’s iconised the role with teeth, claws and that overall raspy charm, we’ve come to love. Being such a big character obviously, means that Hugh Jackman has no option but to go out in spectacular fashion.
The film trailer for Logan was released recently. If you’ve seen it, then you already know that it did not disappoint. In an era defined by enormous action sequences and omnipresent CGI, Logan. Represents a pensive and intimate look at the final days of Marvel‘s most popular mutant.
We’ve gone through the trailer and picked out some of the most badass moments. Check out our list and let us know what you thought of the first official Logan trailer. Now let’s get started with what we all came here to see: action.
Logan vs. The Reavers
Old man Logan, much like young man Logan seems to be pretty much done with life. But it looks like life has one more thing before they let him go. In the trailer we catch him fighting what we assume to be The Reavers. For those of you that don’t read the comics, The Reavers are a team of criminal cyborgs. Dedicated to the destruction of the X-Men, Wolverine in particular. The trailer has our boy Logan hacking, slashing and clawing his way through a squad of bad guys like the cornered animal that he is.
X-23 In Action
It’s pretty clear that Logan and X-23 have far more in common than they realize. Despite her young age and diminutive stature, this girl can lay waste to a group of heavily armed, full-sized men without a moment’s hesitation, and it looks completely awesome. At this point, it still remains unclear as to whether or not 20th Century Fox intends to actually replace Wolverine with X-23 as the resident berserker in the X-Men universe. However, this footage makes it abundantly clear that it’s a 100% viable option to fall back on in the near future.
Berserker Rage
Wolverine may have lost a step or two in his old age, but this beautiful shot from the first official Logan trailer makes it instantly obvious that Weapon X still has a few tricks up his sleeve. With the added cushion of an R-rating, it’s clear that Logan will really delve deep into the nature of Logan‘s berserker rage. We’ve seen instances of this rage before — such as the X-Mansion fight in X2 and the train sequence in The Wolverine — but Logan will seemingly double down on these ideas to give us the most feral, rabid silver screen incarnation of Wolverine to date. Bring on the carnage!
Logan Vs. X-23
It’s been quite a while since Wolverine had to face off against someone else with claws and an advanced healing factor. Considering how his fight with Lady Deathstrike played out during the events of X2, we don’t think he relishes the idea of doing it again. However, this quick shot from the trailer makes it abundantly clear that Logan will have to fight battle X-23 at some point during Logan‘s story. The twin claws clashing with his own are a hint at things to come.
Embracing that R-Rating
Out of all the insanely awesome moments that occur during Logan‘s entirely too-brief trailer, nothing can even come close to comparing to this beautiful money shot. Wasting no time, he swiftly delivers three adamantium-laced claws to through the soldier’s head… ouch. If you had any lingering fears about whether or not Logan would embrace its R-rating, then worry no longer. The film is going to be a bloody, violent ride into dystopian future, and Wolverine‘s last adventure will rack up his biggest body count to date.
