50 Minutes of Final Fantasy XV

Square Enix is at Gamescom 2016  this week in Germany to show off a new playable demo for Final Fantasy XV, and for those unable to attend, the publisher has posted a 50-minute video of gameplay footage on its YouTube page. There are combat scenes, mission scenes and cinematic moments that will give fans of the franchise a closer look at what to expect from the game.

The video stars Noctis Lucius Caelum standing in a fiery dungeon, staring down a ferocious-looking demon. Caelum, the crown prince, and heir to the Lucius throne must defend his city from those who are trying to claim the last crystal housed within the kingdom. The video also provides a better look at other characters within the game, Prompto Argentum, Ignis Scientia and Gladiolus Amicitia.

Square Enix recently confirmed that Final Fantasy XV will be delayed until the 29th of November.

Konami Is Making Metal Gear: Survive

This actually needs its own article, but I need some time to process this news. Konami will be making a new Metal Gear game without Hideo Kojima. Can there even be a Metal Gear without Kojima? Apparently so. Metal Gear: Survive is a four person co-op set to launch next year. It takes place in an alternate timeline, set after Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and prior to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The trailer hints that familiar characters like Big Boss could return, although there’s no confirmation yet.

Running on the Fox Engine, Survive will pit up to four players against zombified enemies against whom they’ll have to — well, survive. Like previous Metal Gear games, they’ll have to be stealthy about it; a press release also confirms “new weaponry” will be at players’ disposal. The game is due out on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One.

Overwatch’s New Map Eichenwalde

At Gamescom 2016 today, Blizzard revealed the first new map coming to Overwatch. It’s called Eichenwalde and it will be coming to the competitive shooter in September. Eichenwalde is a hybrid assault/escort map. Players will have to escort a battering ram to Eichenwalde Castle or, if they’re on the opposing team, prevent that battering from reaching its destination.

For those of you who haven’t watched Blizzard’s latest animated short check it out below. Entitled ‘The Last Bastion’, Blizzard describes Eichenwalde as the birthplace of the robot Bastion. Blizzard’s fly-through video of the new map shows a handful of destroyed Bastion robots littered throughout the map.
