The inevitable VR experience for Star Wars is here with Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine.
Last year Lucasfilm, Industrial Light and Magic and Skywalker Sound banded together to form the ILM Experience Lab or ILMxLab for short, to announce that they would be launching the Star Wars universe onto VR. Check out their latest teaser trailer.
Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine has only been referred to as a VR “experiment,” but many are speculating that it will turn into, or become, a full-fledged video game. Whatever it turns out to be, it’s expected to come out on the HTC Vive, meaning that they get to bring the Vive’s super-accurate, full-motion-tracking hand-held controllers into the mix. And that, of course, means lightsabers.
The ILMxLab team is doing private demos of the new experiment at the GDC conference this week, but there’s no word yet on if/how/when they intend to release it publicly. Considering that most people don’t have an HTC Vive yet — after all, preorders will only ship out in April.
