Team Fortress 2 Enters the eSports Arena

The world of eSports has a new game and unbelievably it’s Team Fortress 2

Valve plans to kick off the first round of Competitive Beta Testing around this week or so. In this new mode players are able to select team members as well as play in a limited-time stress test with larger numbers.

“Our plan is to start small and increase participation as we go. For this initial phase of testing – which will begin in the next week or so – we’ll be gradually granting random members from this group an in-game item called a Competitive Matchmaking Beta Pass. Once you’ve been granted a pass you will have ongoing access to the beta.

The following criteria to be eligible for the Competitive Beta are as follows:

  • – Have either purchased a copy of Team Fortress 2prior to June 23, 2011, or have made a purchase from the Mann Co. Store
  • – Have Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator enabled
  • – Have a phone number associated with your Steam account

The new mode should place people in games against similarly skilled players and it could open up some serious eSports potential for Team Fortress 2. It’s about time Valve expands its eSports as its other games Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2, have done extremely well in the international arena.

It’s time to put your competitive hats on, Team Fortress 2 fans.
