The force feels… out of balance, without a Darth Maul game.
In 2010 Red Fly Studios were in the works to develop the yet unnamed Star Wars game featuring the origin story of Darth Maul but they were shut down just 8 months into development. Now after all this time with Electronic Arts having exclusive Star Wars gaming rights, the chances of this game being picked up are slim but that’s not stopping these game devs from trying!
The game was set to revolve around a young Darth Maul and his journey to the Dark Side and becoming a Sith, before the events of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. It’s a great story that highlights the torture that The Emperor put him through and paints a different light on the flawed Jedi ethos.
Dan Borth the studio founder writes, “We are currently working on a full next gen demo of all things Maul to show to the powers that be. It’s been a lot of work on our off time. We have been burning a candle for this game since it was killed in hopes we can get it turned back on again. IF that is to happen we need to approach EA with a demo that will impress them. I think we have that or are close to it. Still it is completely not up to us.”
There is some gameplay footage available online with the fast combat pace and moves akin to that of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Let us know in the comments whether you’re hoping to see this game revived! #WeWantMaul
